-Returnable memories. [chapter 1.]

Her hand scribbling rapidly, a small girl sat on a bench, just outside of the Risembool parkside. Her teeth gently bit her lip with concentration, making sure she did not make any mistakes. Her usually blue eyes shone with an orange glow as the morning sun rised over the hills of the small village. With her concentration leaving for just a second- the girl remembered to take in a breath. The humid taste of the air filled her mouth, as she flicked some of her short, purple hair behind her ears.

After a few short moments, more and more children emerged from their homes, their voices echoing through the valley. 'What's she doing?' A small blonde boy asked his brother. 'Drawing?' The younger one shrugged, obviously uninterested. He just wanted to play ball. He flicked his mouse brown hair from his eyes and noticing his brother run toward the girl. He sighed, running after him.

The girl looked up at the strangers, both staring intently at her. She blinked, nervously, continuing with her drawing. 'You know that 's wrong!' The older boy stated, blatantly. The girl's eyes flickered back to the boy's and again to her own drawing. She continued her scribbling, adding more details as she went. With this, the boy helped himself to one of her pencils, taking the crinkled up paper from her hand. 'Watch!' he said, erasing bit by bit of her drawing, correcting here and there, with a wide grin spread accross his face. His gold eyes shone with glee, as his younger brother watched him work. 'Done!' he exclaimed, after a moment. He held 'his' work up with pride. [By now, there were barely a few scribbled left of the girl's drawing.]

She took a look at what he'd done, her face contorting into a frown. 'You idiot! Now it looks ugly!' she said, grabbing the paper from him, and staring at it, as if by willing it alone her original drawing would reappear.

'It's not ugly!' He retorted. 'Besides, the way you did it wouldn't have worked! Everything would be all lop sided and gooey!' His brother watched him, proudly. It was just like the blonde haired boy to talk so passionatley about this.

'Watch!' he said, putting the drawing on the floor and placing his hands on top. 'This is a real transmutation circle!' as he spoke. The circle began to glow, and the paper was replaced with three small shrubs. 'The paper used to be a tree, right? Well now it can be a tree again! I brought it back to life!' he said happily.

The girl stared in awe. This boy didn't just draw the pretty transmutation circles! He was a real alchemist! 'Show me!' she almost ordered, but with a much happier tone this time. 'Please!'

'Well okay! But you'll never be as good as me! Not in a million years!' The blonde boy answered. 'But first, you have to tell me your name! Equivelant exchange and all!'

'It's Steph!'

'Steph? Well I'm Edward! Edward Elric! And this here's my brother, Alphonse.'
