"Winning is Everything"

"You don't think I can be badass?" Courtney was annoyed. How dare anyone doubt her? She could do anything if she put her mind to it! Who did this Neanderthal think he was?

"You don't have a badass bone in her body, Princess." When he heard the familiar growl, he let his signature smirk shine through. He loved to watch her squirm. He knew she would rise up to the challenge and he was having a blast. He lived for this.

Courtney's onyx eyes had a burning tenacity that he had never seen in anyone else. He loved to spark the fire that drove her to do daring things. He'd even go as far to say it was his biggest turn on. However, he had not been serious about this argument and did not expect what followed.

"I can be a badass. In fact, I could be a bigger badass then you any day, Duncan." The smirk on her face widened when the delinquent's smugness faltered.

"Be careful what you're saying, Babe. No one is a bigger badass than me."

"We'll see about that."

The next day was possibly the biggest shock of Duncan's life. Courtney wasn't in school. The crazy chick has had perfect attendance since pre-school and now she was nowhere to be found.

She wasn't in English or History. When his Science partner seat was empty, he began to wonder what the overachieving brunette was up to.

He certainly wasn't expecting to see a girl dressed in black and fishnets and buried under a thick layer of eyeliner that slightly resembled his Princess leaning against his car.

"You skipped?" He looked at her strangely when she passed him a candy bar. "What's this for?"

"I snagged a ton at lunch. Five-finger discount…" Holding up a hand, she showed all five digits for dramatic effect. Popping her gum, she stood up and walked toward him.

"Interesting. Very interesting." He opened the wrapper, "Alright, Courtney, I can take the hint. Think you're better than me? I can definitely say I didn't think you'd screw up your school record and become a thief just to prove a point… I also didn't think you'd dress up for Halloween so early." He started looking at her combat boots and moved up to her messy brown hair. "Liking the look though. Kinda hot, Princess."

"Well, I wouldn't expect you to understand. I guess you just aren't badass enough." Her black stained lips grinned and she brushed past him.

She would never admit that, with the permission of her teachers, she had spent the day helping the principle reorganize his records. Nor would she tell him that she borrowed the clothes from the theatre department. She especially wouldn't let him know that she had bought the candy bar before school, but a badass was a badass built upon reputation, not truth. The point is, she won once again.
