Flashpoint
'Why does this always happen to me?' Annie thought as she and her best friend Auggie ran through the abandoned – well, not really abandoned anymore – warehouse. She had to lead Auggie around the obstacles that seemed to come up out of nowhere.
Annie felt a shooting pain in her arm – the arm that was holding onto Auggie's wrist. She swore. A bullet probably grazed her. She'd have to look at it later, when they were safe. Auggie asked her what happened and she looked back at him. Annie was going to tell him that she was fine when she heard a bomb going off.
The two jumped behind a pillar for cover. Auggie wrapped himself around her, as if he was going to try to shield her from the debris that flew around them and passed them by. Shoe could feel Auggie tense around her as things came crashing down around them. He pushed Annie against the pillar and the pain in her arm got worse. She winced. The wince was noticeable to Auggie – nothing ever got by him. He shifted and asked her if she was okay. She told him that it was a flesh wound and nothing more.
She looked around them and saw that there were pieces of metal, wood, and concrete all around them; there was barely any room to move. Annie told this to her blind companion and then moved slightly when she felt a wave of claustrophobia – or was it something else?
Auggie moved off of her and sat beside her, leaning against the large pillar. Annie was sitting against it too now. The two of them just sat there by each other for a while. Auggie said some thing that made her laugh. Annie couldn't quite remember whit it was, but it made her feel a little bit better.
Annie could feel herself falling drifting into unconsciousness. She told this to Auggie and he replied saying that she had to fight it. She tried but could feel herself falling asleep.
The last thing that Annie remembered before blacking out was Auggie putting his arms around her, reassuring her that the extraction team was on its way and that everything was going to be okay. And Annie believed him.
AN: So How'd you like it? Well, I like writing it – that's for sure… Don't forget to drop a review thingy down there! :)
Remember to Smile :)
