Prologue:

He sat on the swing set, clutching his teddy bear close to his chest. All alone and nobody to talk to.

" Am I really... a monster?" He murmured to himself looking at his feet as if they were the most interesting thing in the world. Suddenly, a girl with a round face and dark red hair stood in front of him. She bent down and tried to get a look at his face. Once she saw him, she... smiled?

" Why would you think your a monster? You look just fine to me." She said blinking her eyes innocently. He just sat there staring down at her. He was shocked. Did she really just ask him that? Was she serious? He lifted his head and she did the same. She extended her right hand to him, " I'm Kiara, what's your name?" she asked. He hesitated at first, but took her hand in his in his and finally spoke,

"I'm Gaara." He slightly smiled back at her. Something felt weird in his chest, but it was a good kind of feeling. He liked it.

' Maybe I might have a friend after all.' He thought as a bigger smile stretched across his face.

" Do you wanna play a game with me?" His new-found friend asked snapping Gaara out of his thoughts. As quickly as his smile left his face, it reappeared again.

" Okay, which game?" He asked. She thought for a moment then a thought came into her mind. 'hide-and-Seek!'

" Lets play Hide-and-Seek!" Kiara cheered clapping her hands. Gaara looked at her quizzically.

" What's Hide-and-seek? How do you play it?" She looked shocked at the questions. They stood in silence for a few seconds until it was broken by her giggles.

" Hide-and-Seek is a hiding game. I'll hide while you count to 10. Then you have to find me." she giggled.

" Okay, but what happens when I find you?" He asked. She giggled again.

" Then I have to count while you hide. Are you ready to play?" Kiara said continuing to smile. He slightly nodded his head.

" Okay start counting!" She yelled running off.

After a few seconds of him counting and Kiara hiding. It was time for him to find her.

" Okay Kiara, I coming!" He yelled and began looking for her. Kiara, who was behind a tree, giggled as he came closer. After a few moments of him searching he gave up and looked for her with his sand. She was still behind the tree, when suddenly she felt something move across her foot and up her leg. Kiara quickly looked down to see that the sand had wrapped itself around her leg. She was beginning to get a little scared. Kiara tried to kick it off, but with no success. The fear in her quickly turned into frustration. She tried again only harder. The sand still held its firm grip onto her. She placed her hands on her hips and pouted angrily. It soon faded away when Gaara walked out from behind the tree she was using to hide.

" Gaara, this sand is getting on my nerves! It won't let go of my leg." she said hands still on her hips. " Will you help me get it off. It's hurting my leg a bit." Just as soon as she asked, it let go of her leg. She stared down at her leg, then to Gaara, and back to her limb again.

" HOW DID YOU DO THAT, THAT WAS SO COOL!" Kiara exclaimed jumping up and down excitedly!

He just looked at her dumbfounded. Gaara was expecting her to run away screaming, but he was wrong. He smiled back at her.

' Maybe there is someone out there for me.' Gaara thought happily.
