Don't leave me.

Don't leave me!

Please! Inuyasha!

After years of loyalty. Years of friendship. Thousands of battles fought together. After all they'd been through, individually and together as friends. He chose to leave?

Kagome sat against the wall. Her eyes directed an empty gaze at the ceiling, dead and vacant of emotion. Many hours had gone by when those eyes were brimmed over with sorrow in the form of tears. Each droplet held enough grief to last a person a lifetime. However that was many eons ago, or so it felt like.

The sorrow that permeated the atmosphere of their country home was almost tangible. Many demons turned their heads in that direction, where faint sobs could be heard. One in particular was distracted from his paperwork because of it. He recognized the voice for that of a, compared to himself, young human girl, one he had not seen for nearly half a century.

_FLASHBACK_

"Hey Inuyasha?" She turned her head towards where he was sitting comfortably by the fire.

"Huh?" He lifted his eyes to meet hers.

"Would you rather have been dealt the emotional scars from Kikyo or be tortured and killed by Naraku a thousand times over in their place?" Her question was random, but it added a weight to his heart. His eyes narrowed and shifted themselves back to the fire. The bright orange flames crackled, and their light brought an ethereal glow to his amber eyes.

"Kagome..." He started with a sigh, "I would have gone through double the torture alone than feel the pain I felt when I learned that she had betrayed me." His eyes moved back to her chocolate orbs, and held them in a gaze so intense it sent shivers down her spine. "Let alone the amount of times I saw her after she had been resurrected. Sure for a while I had been happy to see her, but I soon realized that was all I could do. Look at her face and hear her voice, but never again feel the warmth of her touch or the strong beating of her heart."

By now her eyes had begun to glisten. As she continued to listen to his answer, she wished she had never asked. For hers would have been the same. Albeit she no longer felt it in that form, she had been thoroughly in love with him. Her eyes closed when she heard what came next. "Because every thought I had of her after I realized this, shattered my heart all over again." His voice cracked.

_End Flashback_

Why?

She thought it over and over again. He was gone, and he wasn't coming back.

After the final battle the jewel had chosen the cruelest of fates for her. Immortality. To spend the rest of her existence guarding the damn thing. She had been mortified, but at the same time she understood why. Who's to say history won't repeat itself? This was the only way to insure that the jewel wouldn't fall into some evil bastard's hands again.

Years passed, and she watched. She experienced the joy of seeing Sango and Miroku happy. To see their children and grandchildren happy. And through those years one person remained at her side. He aged, but he did so slowly, decade by decade. Every time she bore the pain of loss he bore it with her.

However, the centuries passed, and the day came when he had to go. Forced to leave her behind.

Inuyasha was dead.

Another piece of her heart shattered. Was there anything, anyone, else to lose?
