This is my first Castle fic. It deals with "Kill Shot" so there will definitely be spoilers (as many as the preview allowed anyway). It is dark in ways and any humour that can remotely be found is also dark.

Disclaimer: I do not own Castle.

Slowly, she slid to the floor crying. She, Katherine Beckett, stoic police detective and inspiration for the bestselling Nikki Heat series, was crying. The tears kept coming as she slid her hand through her hair, the bandage on her arm reminding her of everything she had been through over the past months. The woman put her head against the wall. Of all the things that could possibly happen to her, a sniper had to come and bring back all the pain she had been trying to deal with since she was nearly killed. She wondered why now had to be a good time to have an emotional breakdown. In a way, she found the situation ironic, cruelly ironic. She had been told to leave the case, but the case was how she coped. Go figure not being around it would cause her to act the way she was now.

To top off her PTSD ravaged mind, Rick Castle had to be yelling her name through the door. She laughed sardonically. Kate wondered why her work partner and author of the bestselling Nikki Heat series could not leave her alone. That was all she wanted. But no, he had to come and save the day again. She was pretty sure she had no intention to do anything stupid. Why did he have to worry so much? She was just an emotional wreck who needed to cope with the problems in her life without help. Her thought resonated in her brain: without help. Did she need help? Not from her counselor, but from someone else? Did she need someone to comfort her during times like this? She knew in the rational part of her brain she did. She wanted help. Especially if the help came from Richard Castle, the man she. . .

Detective Beckett put her head on her knees knowing Rick would come in any moment now and he was exactly who she needed.
