Author note:
Potential spoilers for Unending.
This was inspired by an interview with Amanda Tapping where she said that she and Christopher Judge had decided their characters were involved durring the 50 years they spent on the Odyssey. I have never been a Sam/Teal'c shipper but this story was born from that interview. Enjoy!
Samantha could feel her tension level mounting by the day. Everyone was counting on her to get them out of this mess she had gotten them in but she wasn't having progress. In fact she was starting to doubt she could do it at all. "We would have all been dead long ago were it not for your intervention Colonel Carter," Teal'c stated on one of his visits to her lab. "We are all in your debt." Teal'c had taken to stopping by her lab from time-to-time to talk or invite her to lunch. Sam saw through the excuses. She knew he was trying to make sure she took care of herself and give her occasional breaks from her self-imposed isolation. She appreciated his company, if she was honest with herself. With the exception of mealtimes everyone else seemed to have distanced themselves from her. General Landry spent most of his hours in his greenhouse, Daniel and Vala were very much wrapped up in each other. Cameron seemed to blame her for the fact that they were stuck here and spent most of his day sulking or exercising to redirect his anger. Teal'c was the only one of her companions that still sought out her company. Sam appreciated Teal'c's quiet companionship and the shoulder to occasionally cry on. He didn't require her to speak; he just inherently understood what was troubling her.
She leaned her head against his shoulder as they sat on the couch in her lab in companionable silence. He put his arm around her shoulder. "Have you ever thought of the two of us as anything more that friends Teal'c?" She couldn't help asking.
"Your heart always lay with another," was his simple response.
What if that's no longer true? She paused then asked "What if it wasn't?" His arm tightened slightly around her shoulder. Had she caught him off-guard?
There was a long pause and then he answered. "If that were the case I would definitely find myself thinking about it."
Content with the response, Sam couldn't help but smile and lean in a little closer the man sitting by her side.
End note: I know this chapter is pretty short but future chapters will (hopefully) be longer. Reviews and constructive criticism are very appreciated. Flames will be thrown in my circular file.
