Between tangled sheets and frustration, it was said this would be nothing. It would mean nothing. Yet as Sam became tangled yet again between Dean and the cream colored motel sheets, he knew. He knew and he wanted it as much as Dean did. It escalated, growing more and more until one day it had exploded in an argument that ended in Dean shouting, "I want us to stop ignoring it. I want there to be an 'us'!"

Maybe that's why it hurt so much more as he cradled his older brother. Tears, blood, sweat, intermixed on the battlefield at the end. He wasn't going to make it; Sam knew but hoped he would. It didn't matter, it all ending with one last sentiment.

"I'm proud of us."
