Sitting beside one of the upper waterfalls in the Meteor Falls cave, Steven and May were enjoying a nice lunch before he escorted her out of the cave.

"Your team has improved, but I feel you need to focus more on training their precision and accuracy." He said as he handed the girl another piece of bread.

"Honestly I haven't had much time to train lately with it being contest season and all." The girl fumbled out in response.

"Then why hike through the caves to battle me every week if you haven't even been training." He asked her teasingly.

"Well I didn't want to miss o-" The girl cut herself off and began to blush.

"Didn't want to miss? What? Another crushing defeat?" He asked with a chuckle.

"I- This time-" May took a breath and tried to collect her thoughts. "I didn't want to loose sight of my goal, I will become strong enough to defeat you."

"Oh is that all? and here I was starting to assume you came all this way just to see me." Steven said in an almost mocking tone, but you could still hear the truth in his words and below that a more primal urge. The girl turned to face him so quickly her hair took a moment to catch up.

"I-" May tried to stammer out a response but cut herself off as she realized that Steven had gotten much closer to her while she had been preoccupied. She distracted herself with how close his lips were, until his sudden smile reminded her that she was just staring at him.

"You?" Steven teased as he leaned in a little closer.

"I just want to get strong enough to-" May tried to say again but her voice began to falter even before he interrupted her.

"Is that what you tell yourself at night when you can't get my face out of your mind?" Steven's tone suddenly changed from his usual light hearted flirtation to something more raw. Something he tried his best to hide from her. She gulped and tried to find a response but had to face the fact that he was right, and he knew it without her saying a thing. The fact that she stayed quite answered him well enough.

"Yes, it is." She finally responded and looked directly into eyes. Steven smiled and leaned in, ever so lightly pressing their lips together.

"I was hoping I could tempt you into kissing me, but a verbal confession will have to do." He chuckled and started to pull away but May grabbed him by his suit and pulled him back. She almost violently slammed their lips together again. The kiss was awkward at first but soon their lips found a rhythm. May finally broke the kiss to breath. While she recovered Steven moved their food to the side. He turned back to the girl and saw so many things in her eyes, from fear and excitement to confusion and lust.

He reached out and grabbed her hand, intertwining his fingers with hers. He didn't press the issue, after the months he had spent courting the girl, he was not going to rush this. She smiled and stared at their hands before looking back up at him.

"What is this?" she asked simply.

"Attraction? A confusing mix of lust and love, that I can't claim to understand." Steven answered her query, hoping that he didn't misjudge what she was asking.

"It's weird." She responded in a rather flat tone. Steven burst out in laughter before agreeing whole heartedly. "So what now?" She asked, looking into his eyes. Steven tried to answer but found himself at a loss for words.

"I don't know, whatever you want I guess." He answered after thinking about it for a few minutes.

"Allright then." May said before suddenly pushing herself up against him. Steven leaned back to let her look down on him in the dim light. She stared for a moment appreciating his good looks before leaning down to kiss him. The moment their lips parted again she spoke. "I have been waiting such a long time for this." Then pressed her lips against his again.

"I know, so have I." Steven said before kissing May once again.
