I remember when I died.
I was with her, the love of my life. She was my one and my only, my Elizaveta. Neither of us had expected it to happen. It was too unfair. It was too soon.
"My love?"
I saw a bright light, a fading light. I could feel the blood flow out of my wound steadily, and her tears fell onto my face as it grew paler. I felt a chill go throughout my entire body.
"Please, my love, speak to me!"
We were walking together in a forest. It was a bit dense, and I couldn't see much past the tree tops. She wore a green dress and had a lovely white flower in her hair, which hung down past her shoulders. She was the most beautiful girl in the world. Her smile brightened the darkness that the day held. Her hand, fingers intertwined with mine, was soft and warm. It made me feel safe, and I could tell that being with me made her feel the same.
"Please!"
We had been walking together because we needed to escape. I had been at war with Rodereich and his Austrian army for days, and the stress was getting to me. Elizaveta was worried for me, and requested our outing. I couldn't bear to see her worry, so I smiled, kissed her, and promised it.
"Gilbert!"
I had the oddest feeling that someone had been watching us. Elizaveta didn't seem to notice, but I was deeply concerned. I knew I was taking a risk going out with her like this. The Austrian army could've sent someone to follow us. Elizaveta's life was in danger. But she seemed so sad and lonely since I had gone to war. I needed to stay with her, and remind her that I loved her. For protection, I brought my sword.
"P-please, Gilbert….. don't go…."
He came out of the shadows with amazing speed. I managed to defend his first blow so that Elizaveta could get out of harm's way. "Go!" I yelled. "Run, Elizaveta!" Rodereich grimaced at the sound of her name. She should've been his, we both knew that. But she chose to love me. He swung his sword with the strength of ten men, and I blocked, trying to knock off his balance. Our blades met catastrophically, clanging loudly. I swung my blade quickly and managed to hit his left arm.
He cursed and attacked again, somehow with even more force. My grip slipped, and my blade almost fell. I sliced again, missing, and he got my face. I tried once more to cut him with my sword, but the counter momentum of his parry threw my balance off. He saw the opening and took it, stabbing me straight in the chest. It was a fatal blow.
"No!" Elizaveta cried.
Rodereich removed his blade with as much force as he had used to stab me. I fell backwards onto the ground, dropping my sword.
Elizaveta ran to my side on instant. God pitied me enough to allow me to gaze upon her beautiful face one last time.
With my last breath, I told her "I love you."
