Summary: L is having a nightmare, and Light surprises when he hears what that nightmare was about. Then he wants to comfort L...

The moonlight was shining in from the window which was open a little. A weak wind blew into the dark room, where only was a bed and a small table. A boy was sitting on the edge of the bed and looking out of the window towards the starry sky.

L moved in his sleep. Light turned to see him, the sleeping boy who looked even more fragile when sleeping. His face was pale and he was sweating a little. Carefully Light touched L's black hair, moving it away from his eyes.

When Light moved his hand, the cold metal of the handcuff touched his wrist. He felt the weight of the chain clearly, like reminding him of their promise.

As long as I'm with you, L, you're not alone. This chain will be prove it.

Light sighed and turned his head towards the night sky. The night was silent, even the wind wasn't whispering its tales when sneaking into the room. It was so beautiful…

Suddenly L shouted and opened his eyes. Light turned towards him and saw him being wet with sweat and panting. He stared at the darkness eyes wide, as if he had seen a ghost.

"L?" Light asked carefully and touched L's cheek. "What's wrong?"

"I-it's nothing." L mumbled. "I just had a bad dream…"

Light frowned. "Well, it must've been very shocking."

L shook his head and put his hand onto his forehead, mumbling something. "Don't worry, I'm alright. You can sleep."

"You're trembling." Light said, wrapping his arm around L's shoulders.

"It will go away soon…"

"What kind of dream did you see?" Light asked silently.

"It… it was related to death." L mumbled.

Light frowned. "Are you afraid of death?"

"Only the death of those who are important to me."

For a while it was quiet. L was sitting eyes closed and trying to make the memory of the dream fade away. Light was still holding him. An owl hooted somewhere outside.

Light started to stroke L's back with his hand. L took a deep breath and finally opened his eyes. Light looked at him with worried look on his face.

"Who was the person who died in your dream?" He asked then.

L was quiet for a while, until answered: "It was you."

Light's eyes widened. "Me? Am I… important to you?"

"…Yeah." L mumbled, bowing his head. "You're my only friend."

Light pulled L against him and hugged him tightly, stroking his hair. L was still trembling a little, but he wasn't sweating and panting anymore.

"Poor little…" Light whispered. "Don't be afraid, I'm here and I won't go anywhere."

Light could feel L's silent breathing and the warmth of his body against him. L was skinny, so fragile that it seemed he could just break anytime. Light pressed him tightly against himself.

"I promise I will never leave you alone. Don't worry." Light whispered to L's ear.

"Thank you, Light." L whispered, wrapping his arms around Light.

"Try to sleep now. I'll be by your side."

L nodded and pulled away from Light, but he pressed L's head onto his knees. For a while L looked at Light, until he closed his eyes and placed his hand onto Light's leg. Light stroke his hair.

After a while L seemed to be asleep, safely in the arms of Light. He had a calm look on his pale face.

Light smiled at himself, bowed his head and whispered to L's ear: "Sleep now, my dear. I'll be here to protect your dreams."

I hope you liked it :D
