New Food Experience
"pagetti?." Jasmine asked as she looked at her pasta alfredo like it looked wrong.
"It's kind of like Spaghetti." Jackie said as she, Nick, and the kids sat at a table in a fancy new Italian restaurant close to the school where Jackie taught at.
She put a little bit on Jasmine's fork and gave Jasmine a bite.
"mmmm yummy." Jasmine said as she indicated to Jackie she wanted another bite.
"Look, she's like her mother, she can't get enough of the stuff." Nick said with a grin.
"Like mother, like daughter." Jackie said with a laugh.
Nick laughed and then Jackie noticed his face changed as he hurriedly reached across the table, but he was too late, Houston stuck his hand into Jackie's plate and grabbed a huge handful of pasta alfredo. The sauce went all over, on the table, on Jackie's skirt, all over Houston's clothes, it covered his face, he'd even managed to get it in his hair. Jackie did however manage to pry most of the noodles out of his hand so he wouldn't choke. He grinned at his mother as he shoved the few noodles she hadn't gotten into his mouth.
"Is it good bud?" Jackie asked.
"Yeah." The little guy said happily.
"Houden mess." Jasmine said as she looked at her brother's clothes with disdain.
"You can say that again." Jackie mumbled as she picked him up out of the highchair and carried him into the bathroom to clean him, and herself off.
Once in the bathroom Jackie got a wet paper towel and scrubbed Houston's face off.
"Ack." Houston said in protest, Jackie just shook her head.
"That happened to me once with my son." A woman, who was washing her hands at the sink said.
"It's good to know I'm not the only one." Jackie said with a laugh.
"Oh trust me you're not, except with my little one it was chocolate cake."
"I bet that was pleasant." Jackie joked.
"My son sure liked it, me not so much."
Jackie laughed "Aren't kids wonderful?" she asked.
"Yep, sometimes they can be a real treat." The woman replied.
The woman gave Jackie one last smile before leaving the bathroom.
After what seemed like an eternity Jackie got herself and Houston all cleaned up. She carried him back to their table. Jackie fed Houston while Nick helped Jasmine eat her alfredo so she wouldn't make a huge mess too.
Both of the kids loved the pasta, which kind of surprised Nick and Jackie, most kids preferred hamburgers, but not theirs apparently. After dinner as the family drove home Nick and Jackie considered the outing a success, although Jackie didn't think her skirt would ever be the same.
