The girl, ebony hair dancing in moonlight,
Put on her clothes and stepped from the room,
She sank to the floor, feeling used and alone
And she cried to the music of night.
He woke, early morning and ruffled his hair,
Pulled on some trousers and walked to the door,
He opened it nervously, watching the floor,
Dreading she might still be there.
She watched as he struggled for something to say,
She rose and he frowned and he took a step back,
Her hand to her heart, she followed his track
While he continued to stumble away.
"I'm sorry" he mumbled, with tears in his eyes,
Raised his hand to his scar as if he was in pain,
She waited, "I'm sorry" he said once again,
Hung his head, clenched his fists and sighed.
Birds sang merrily from outside the place,
Kids running happily, free to just play,
He found there was nothing more he could say,
Sunshine lighting his face.
"I don't understand" and she tried not to cry,
But the tears in her eyes were awfully cruel
as they rolled down her cheeks as she talked to the fool,
Who didn't know how, or why.
The night before, he had gone to a bar,
With friends who had money to waste and to buy,
When the drunk saw a brunette passing right by,
And asked to escort him, not far.
He'd confessed his love and said that he cared,
The girl delighted to hear of his tale,
She took off the cowboy hat from the night's 'Western sale'
And thought of the words she'd prepared.
Everyone knew that she loved this man
And she'd waited so long, in vain, for this night,
So they walked to his dorm and turned off the light
And everything followed the plan.
But to the girl's horror, he ruined her game,
When in a fit of excitement, he smiled
And threw back his head and loudly he yelled
Somebody else's name.
So that morning he really needed to explain
How he could all in one strange, dizzy night
Make her so happy and show her the light,
Make her feel that there was no pain...
...And love her one moment but after that time
Shatter her hopes and all of her dreams,
With nothing more than his pitiful screams
Of "I love you so much, Irvine"
She sobbed and he cried and they both walked away
From that dorm and neither wanted to look back,
They'd been subject to fate's cruel attack
And they'd never forget this day.
She never returned to the shores of Balamb,
For his face was too painful for her to see,
And he stayed to watch hyperactive Selphie
Steal his true love of a man.
