Summary: He really should have seen it coming. It was stupid of him not to realize he would fall for the Kurosaki curse: the unconditional love for one woman. For her to be Rukia? Yeah, should have seen that one coming.

Prologue

He had known that the war was over before it even began. He could never really forget those eyes that had looked at him in such clarity that he knew that he was going to go through something quite extraordinary. Oh god he knew.

He really should have known that this was inevitable. He should have seen it coming, but his own refusal to believe in something like this had only delayed his own realizations. He was fighting head on with everything that he was to finally be who he wanted to be. He just hadn't figured her to be in the picture. He really hadn't even thought that it was possible.

This year had started with nothing but misery around him. The way he would describe something like what had happened was that he was in the eye of the storm with no hope of surviving. So, when she walked into it with nothing but a raised eyebrow he was blindsided.

Who did she think she was?

Her expression at the time had screamed at him, asking him was this really what he had amounted to? Was this what the great Ichigo was now reduced to? A mere shadow of a onetime hero?

It was a slow burn—his curiosity of her. She hadn't acted in any way he would have ever thought. She hadn't walked away either. In fact, she guided him gently and held onto his hand while she didn't realize the impact she had on him at that very moment.

He did.

He couldn't even remember the last time someone gave him that blind support. He hadn't let her go, even after she had stayed with him all night. Then, come morning she had slowly led him to the kitchen and watched him eat before going their separate ways.

He had thought he had dreamt it all. Only seeing the discarded dishes later when he came downstairs told him she had in fact been here. The greasy plate, a half filled glass of water and discarded chopsticks told him that he had in fact not fallen into figments of his imaginations. Slowly ever so slowly, he had blinked before the first time in a year- a smile graced his lips.

The moment was so significant that he changed. As if something in him clicked and shook him to face reality. He picked up and began to start to build who he was. Curious in who he was, led him to think more and more about that moment.

He began to see who she was… it surprised him.

He then began to look for little signs from the past that he had denied himself. He had longed for just one look that would let him smile. All he knew was that every time he had caught sight of those eyes, they would hold a challenge that he could never act on. He knew he could never hurt her and mean it.

It didn't mean that he didn't try to change it... that he hadn't tried to fight the pull. But just one glance, one turn and one look sent him over the edge—his heart pounded, his blood boiled as the tight coils of fire in the pit of his stomach churned in a nervous manner.

Every time he had moved, he began to notice, he would have leaned towards her. His ears would automatically pick up her words, as his brain would listen to what she said storing it for a later day. His eyes would follow her path, while his breath would come easier if she was near. His fingers would twitch with a need to hold her... but never had he acted on his instincts.

His body though would betray him if she was ever in danger. He would move before conscience thought passed through him. He would give his life for her... and that frightened him. He never thought he would be giving his life for anything. He was selfish by nature. But now?

Now he knew what he wanted. He knew that if ever a person could have been made for him it would be her. Her acceptance, happiness, wisdom, intelligence, kindness, honesty, her crazy obsessions and weird drawings... just everything. Simply everything she did, he craved.

He knew that the dam had broken. He was curious just how far he could go. He didn't have a choice but to follow her. Though she hadn't given him much thought in the beginning, he had doubted himself. He was curious whether the feelings she invoked within him would cause him to feel more. He just wanted to get to know her. He wanted to feel more of what she had started.

He knew they were far deeper intertwined that he had ever expected. He was illuminated in the best of ways. He had no way of denying it.

He was hers.

Author's Note: Yes, I do realize it started slightly dark—but trust after a few chapters it will get better. This is my first time writing for this fandom, but my God, I'm in love with them. Let me know how you feel for it so far.
