She looked around the office. The large red velvet carpet, covering the floor, walls lined with bookshelves. If anything, it looked more like a library than an office. There were only two desks. One stood close to the big double doors, positioned so it would give a clear view to the second desk which stood in the center of the room, facing the door. The Fuhrer's desk.
This morning he had explained her duties to her. They were pretty simple and not to different from her former job, except for the fact that she did not have to remind her superior to get his paperwork done in time. After the briefing, the Fuhrer had left for a meeting telling her to use this time to get aquinted with the room.
So here she was, standing in frond of the large window, alone with all of her memories.
She had been six when she first met him, though it felt like she had known him forever. He had come to study alchemy, the mischievous young boy with a shock of raven black hair and dark observative eyes. His sarcastic grin had already been there, she had seen it the first time they met. There had been something in his actions and his words, like he was trying to provoke her. She had known he was just teasing her, but still she had been unable to stop herself from lashing out, telling him to mind his own business. He had grinned her, stating that this could turn out to be more fun than he had thought.
In time he became someone she relied on. She knew he would be there for her. So she made a promise to herself. She was going to be there for him too.
She knew he had a goal, he had told her that after that dreadful war.
"I want to change the way this country runs," he had told her. "It's the only way I can justify taking my next breath."
She had nodded, she believed in him, in his goal and she had made another promise; she would do anything in her power to help him.
But lately, that goal seemed further away than ever. The Fuhrer had issued his order, breaking them apart. And here she was, Riza Hawkeye, Fuhrer Secretary.
