It was your fault.

She was your responsibility, but you let her down.

As you walk towards your little flat that you share with your two best friends in Bristol, you see her standing alone outside.

She's wearing a tight little black top with matching pants and a long flowing jacket covering her pale, thin arms. Her head is down and her back is pressed up against the wall, her dark hair swaying in the cool breeze.

She's beautiful, you know that. She's beautiful and clever and talented, and that's what brought you to her in the first place. She's mysterious, and dangerous but that's all thanks to you. You made her the perfect woman for you and now that you've changed its hard for you to even look at her.

You don't hate her, in fact you really do love her... but you can't. The one thing you despise above all others is yourself, and she is you so you can't love her.

She looks up at you as you come near and she smiles slightly.

You can see the need in her eyes. She's alone and scared and needs your help but you just can't. You hate yourself and for as long as you hate yourself you must hate her too.

"Mitchell, please. You have to talk to me," she says, but you ignore her, push past her and go inside, closing the door behind you and leaning your back up against it.

You know she's s still there, leaning back against the other side of the door. It is almost as if you can feel her presence and that worries you.

"Mitchell."

You stand up straight and look up as a tall tanned woman with glowing brown hair and bright brown eyes looks down at you from the top of the stairs.

"Annie," you reply, tracing your hands through your dark hair and stuttering slightly.

Annie comes down to you, her face flooded with concern.

How was it that she always knew when something was wrong. She could read you, almost like a book. It was as if she could see your soul, your deepest thoughts and feelings and she somehow understood.

"What happened Mitchell? Tell me, I know," Annie begins, placing her cold hand on your cheek and it causes you to smile slightly.

She's always been there, ever since you met her and that also scares you. It scares you because you care about her greatly and she's been through so much that you don't want her to have to go through any more pain- and pain, always seems to follow you, wherever you go and whoever you go with.

"It's nothing," you respond, shrugging her off and walking off and upstairs.

You can feel Annie's eyes following you as you walk but you don't turn around.

You make your way to your little room down the end of the hallway and close the door, sitting down on your solitary arm chair and resting you head in your hands.

You know you have to choose, one day you'll have to decide.

On the one fang there's Lauren. She's your responsibility; you have to look after her, she's like a little lost puppy and you can't abandon her. She's strong and brave and just like you. You're one and the same and that scares you more than anything, however it makes you want her more.

On the other fang, there's Annie. Sweet, kind, delicate Annie whose always been there for you. The only problem is you don't want to hurt her and you know that every relationship you'll ever be in is doomed.

You can't put it off forever, and you can't run away any more, it's inevitable.

So, who do you choose? The vampire who doesn't want to live without you, or the ghost who you can't live without?
