Chapter One: He was a young White Mage

He was a young White Mage, could barely handle a level four spell, but he looked forward to what his travels could bring him. Or, at least what his travels would bring him if he had a decent party. One with a Fighter and a Red Mage, maybe even a Summoner, and he would be their noble White Mage keeping the party alive and as they faced their greatest adversary, he would cast a powerful level eight spell and his pure, white light would wash over and save them all. All young mages dream of being heros.
He was from a long family of White Mages; Grandfather used to tell him that way back in their lineage was one of the original Light Warriors...or the girlfriend of a Light Warrior, something to that extent. But unproven lineage means nothing.

"Khard, are you paying attention at all?" "Hm? Of course Ma'am." He said as he proceeded to go back to sleep at his monitor. An equally young female of indiscriminate job class looked at his closed eyes and wondered if White Mages could read minds.

Unproven lineage means nothing when you have to audition for your chance to be a hero. Khard wasn't as young as the narrator makes him sound. It was really more his state of mind that gave him his youthfulness. He was actually about eighteen, oldest in the lvl7 class. He had black hair that was horribly unkempt under his white robes with their classic red triangles. Khard was lucky in that his lineage had demanded his job class. He didn't have to worry about attributes or stats or anything like that, just focus on his magic. That's why he generally slept through Fighting Technique class.

"Do you want to borrow my notes from FighTech?" Khard didn't know who was talking or who they were talking to, but the delicate hand on his shoulder cleared up any suspicion. "Makes no difference to me, Pomme, I have no aptitude for that stuff you know that." "But Khard, its important to life, even if you don't get picked as a..." "You think I can't pass on my own, I don't need your pity. You're here to decide if you want to do something, I'm here to learn my spells, get credits and do something." His voice was soft as he said this, and he didn't make eye contact. "You're such a drama queen Khard. And you're awfully mean for someone who's supposed to be a healer." He was already gone as Pomme gave her retort. He was kinda low level to know a warp spell like that.
