Delta knew when Nick said that he hadn't spoken to Miley in months that he was lying.
Delta knew when Nick said that things between him and Miley had ended because they were too different that he was lying.
Delta knew when Nick said that he felt absolutely nothing for Miley anymore that he was lying.
He may not have loved her, but she knew him well enough to know when he was lying, and every time they spoke about her, that's exactly what he did.
She knew why things had ended between him and Miley, and it wasn't because they were different. It was because he was scared of how she made him feel, and lying to her would never change that.
He had said he hated her – another one of his lies - and she believed him until she remembered something she had read once – Love with the same passion you fight with. And those words made everything crystal clear to her. Nick and Miley could fight with one another until they went blue in the face, but neither one would ever stop loving the other.
Delta knew the night she left him alone in the recording studio that his final words had been a lie.
"I feel absolutely nothing for Miley. She has him and I have you."
Watching the video of him singing a song about her engagement just proved everything that Delta had already known – Nick never had been and never would be over Miley. He would never have her because he already had Miley, and he couldn't have it both ways.
She had tried hard to be enough for him, but the memories of her always seemed more important to him than what he had right in front of him.
His lies that night at the recording studio had been pointless, because with every lie he told, all she could hear was the truth – that his life revolved around Miley, and no woman would ever take her place in his life. Not Samantha, not Selena, and certainly not Delta.
