APPLES

APPLES

It was the afternoon, near lunchtime. Toph, Azula, Mai, and Ty Lee were huddled together near the fire pit discussing ways to torture the boys. Sokka and Zuko were trying to eavesdrop on them, and had so far been unsuccessful. Teo, Haru, and The Duke were sitting around Aang as he told them of his visits to the Western Air Temple 100 years ago. Katara was rummaging through the basket of food.

It was peaceful.

Soon Katara walked over to the rest of the girls, cradling five apples in her arms. "Apples, anyone?" she asked.

All the girls nodded, and took an apple from Katara. Toph right away took a big bit out of hers. Mai looked at the one she got with disgust; there were bruises all over it. Ty Lee began to nibble her apple. Azula threw hers high up in the air and caught it again.

Azula's eyes glazed over, as though she was remembering something from the past. The same thing happened to Ty Lee and Mai.

When the memory shock seemed to be over, Ty Lee and Azula exchanged glances and suddenly burst out laughing. Mai blushed a bright red.

The boys came over to investigate.

"What's going on?" asked Sokka.

Zuko saw the apples the girls were holding, and his face turned as red as his scar. "Aw, jeez…" said Zuko in embarrassment.

"Seriously you guys, what is this all about?" demanded Toph, throwing the apple core into the forest behind her.

Azula and Ty Lee finally stopped laughing.

"Well," said Ty Lee, wiping away a tear. "Once, we—"

"Yeah, we don't wanna know," said Sokka quickly, cutting her off.

Azula threw her apple up into the air once more. "Your loss," she said, taking a bite out of it.
