If you want to be with someone you love, aren't you already there?
Richard Bach, writer

A happy sleepy atmosphere descended on the common room as intoxicated teenagers arranged themselves comfortably and began to drop off. James was sprawled in a big armchair, already fast asleep with his arms around Lily. By now, she's at least his Nearly Girlfriend.

Peter was dozing in the opposite armchair. Alice was dozing against the chair and sucking her thumb, with several other assorted Gryffindors and a couple Ravenclaws sprinkled over the other two armchairs.

Remus, who had been sitting next to Sirius on the little patched sofa while they both got steadily drunker, had fallen asleep on Sirius's shoulder some time ago. And when Sirius had jumped to grab a glass that drunken Peter had knocked, Remus had slipped down to be lying on the sofa.

"Aw!" Prongs had slurred. Remus'd been lying behind Sirius, his face mushed into the sofa, with his fist suspiciously close to his mouth, and he was smiling. So Sirius had just put his legs up next to Remus's and lay alongside him.

"I'm watching you Sirius" mumbled Lily, stirring, and he jumped.

He looked around the room. Everyone was asleep. Sirius hadn't realised anyone else had been awake until softly and a little roughly out of the dim light came the whisper, from a little white face framed in red wispy curls.

"Wha?" he asked. He'd assumed she was pretty smashed, but she leant up and fixed her eyes on him without shaking.

"I'm watching you," she giggled. Okay, she was drunk. "I'm watching how you look at him. Can see." And she pointed at her eye with her index finger to demonstrate.

"Don't know what y'talking about" mumbled Sirius. His heart began to race. Remus, currently curled up to Sirius's body, made a little noise in his sleep, and slid an arm over Sirius's waist. Across the rug, Lily cracked up. "What?" he hissed, head swirling. Why'd he had so much to drink for?

"Advice! Don't- don't wait too long. Cos Moony, he- you. Fancy him."

"Y'drunk. Y'talking bullshit" muttered Sirius, starting to flush, hoping she could only see him in silhouette.

"YOU DO!"

"Shup!" Sirius looked around wildly, in case she had woken someone, and served only to make himself dizzy.

"Look, Sirius" she said, staring at him with big evil eyes. "Y'know it an' I know it, too." He flushed fiery red and tensed his body in discomfort. "Just, gerrit over and kiss'im."

"You got the wrong end of the- the stick" said Sirius surely, a knot of uncomfortable anger welling in his chest.

"Should'a known you wouldn't lemme help" she grumbled, turning back around and cuddling back into James again. "Just trying to be a friend, give you a hand- y'need one from Remus- HAA HAHAA!"

He suddenly felt dreadful- spinning out of control, light headed and panicked, like suddenly realising everyone's talking about you behind your back. Sirius blushed fiercely as she fell silent and began to snore gently. It was a wonder Remus didn't catch fire, they were so bloody close. Wasn't lying to Lily, Sirius's mind mumbled to itself. He settled down in the covers and Remus shifted so their limbs were slotted together a little closer.

Sirius stopped himself trembling, allowing the heat of Moony's body to warm his bones, and as he smiled and stirred in his sleep, Sirius cuddled him against him, and felt very tenderly drowsy. He laced their fingers together and dropped off to sleep.
