A GOOD DAY TO DIE
Harry Potter didn't look a day over seventeen, even though he had been teaching at Hogwarts since he had taken his NEWTS and received his diploma from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry some three years ago. He was a beautiful specimen of perpetual youth although he was a bit paler than a young man should be. He normally just blamed it on not enough sun these days…
Today he was moving cheerfully down the hall singing a muggle song about "You got lucky babe when I found you." When he was slightly distracted by Peeves shrieking for him to get to the Great Hall. There was someone there whom he had been waiting for. Peeves had not calmed down a great deal since the Battle of Hogwarts, but he and Harry had settled their differences and had come ot what one would call an 'understanding'.
It didn't take Harry long to move from one place to another in the castle and soon he was standing in the Great Hall looking across the expanse at Lucius Malfoy. Malfoy was standing there talking to Severus Snape, the new Deputy Headmaster about something. For some strange reason Harry didn't feel like letting the men finish their conversation.
He coughed loudly to attract their attention.
Snape glared at him and snarled, "What do you want. Potter?"
Harry just smiled serenely at him before turning to Malfoy. "What did I tell you the last time we crossed paths?"
The blond man blanched to an even more pale shade of alabaster than Harry was. "I..I…I.. donnn'ttt seeeem to remember." The man finally stuttered.
Harry smiled sweetly at him and pulled out his wand. "I distinctly remember telling you that I was going to kill you."
Snape gasped as he looked from Malfoy to Harry. "What is going on?" He finally managed.
Harry dropped the smile and his embittered expression scared both men enough that the pale one wet himself and the other stepped back in fear. "I told you, Lucius Malfoy that I would spill your blood and destroy your soul for killing my friends. You may reach for your wand."
Malfoy wasted no time in leveling at Harry and beginning a curse.
"Hermione Granger." Harry spoke but a single name. As he spoke the words a cutting hex hit Malfoy, slicing open his dueling arm.
The Malfoy grabbed his wand with the other hand but the next name was spoken, Ronald Weasley. The wand dropped to the floor but was stuck in the blood that was already pooling.
Name after name fell from Harry's lips and with each one a new cut appeared. The final name, Draco Malfoy, was gasped out as tears fell from the boy's vibrant green eyes. He watched, a look of peace suffusing his countenance as the older blond twitched one last time and lay still.
Snape drew his horrified gaze away from the remains of his last close friend. "He came to Hogwarts to beg sanctuary from Vigilantes of the Light, Potter. You killing him makes you no better than he was."
"Ah, there you are wrong, Professor." Harry smiled sadly at him. "You see, Lucius Malfoy killed me three years ago right after the battle that finished Uncle Tom off. With my dying breath I promised him that I would avenge the deaths of as many innocents as I could before I entered the veil."
Before Snape's eyes, Harry began to fade into nothing. There would have been no telling how long the man would have stood there if he hadn't heard the sound of sobbing and looked up to see Minerva and Poppy standing there crying their eyes out because their favorite boy was gone for good.
