He hoped he would have the strength to do what was right. He wouldn't harm her; it would break Edward's heart. She was standing there in their house, right in front of him, and she smelt so sweet. He only just managed to stay still. He thought his senses would over-power him; and he would give in to his monster state. He was the newest member to the family so was finding being a 'vegetarian' quite diffcult.

"Alice," his teeth and fists were clenched.

"It's okay Jasper, you won't hurt her."

"I hope" he whispered so low and so fast that it was impossible for any human to hear.

Alice walked off, pulling Jasper by the sleeve. He stared at Bella as he left.

Jasper then ran once he was out of the house, into the forest. He knew if he hunted too close to the house he would lose control and attack. He ran miles before he couldn't smell her blood anymore.

He saw a mountain lion, one of his favorites, and chased it. It stood no chance against him. He was too fast, too strong. Nothing but Edward could outrun him. He launched himself at the creature, once he'd ended the chase that was simply for his pleasure. It would quench his thirst for now, but would not leave him satisfied. He couldn't go back to the house until Bella had left.

Alice wasn't far behind him. She had caught a deer on her way towards him and wanted to share it with Jasper; he needed it more than her.

"Thanks, Alice, I couldn't stay there much longer, I would have killed her. But she smelt unbelievable."

"I know, Jasper, it'll be okay. Edward knows not to bring her too close now. I spoke to him just after we left, he said he's very sorry and thank you." she smiled sympathetically.

"Thank you, I appreciate it. Do you know when she's going to leave?"

"Umm, yeah, she should be leaving with Edward in ten minutes."

"Okay, thanks."

They wandered around aimlessly for those ten minutes and walked to the house, they wouldn't run, Bella might still be there. But she wasn't, thirty seconds after the ten minutes, Edward was running through the trees with Bella on his back. He waved, but Bella didn't notice. Jasper ran to the house. He couldn't stay close to her for long, even after hunting. He didn't want to hurt her or Edward, and he didn't want to let Carlisle down. He had accepted him into his family, and would be devastated if he hurt any human, especially Bella. Edward would probably never forgive him. And Alice, well, he loved Alice, he couldn't upset her by doing something stupid. She believed in him. And he wouldn't change that for the world
