Sometimes, he wondered if he had made the right choice, if sealing the contract with the stubborn boy had been a wise idea. These times were few and far in between, but he still found himself pondering the chances of what could have happened had he left everything alone, and had not appeared to the child. He banished these thoughts though, upon seeing the boy, hands curled into fists and securely planted on his hips, barking orders to the other three servants with all the aggression and authority his small body possessed.

Sometimes, he wondered if he could get away with snapping the infuriating Prince Soma's neck, what the Indian's last screams would sound like. These thoughts were much more often, and he found himself almost ashamed at the mere thought of causing harm to the youth. Of course, seeing Agni standing so loyally next to the Prince only served to give him more to be ashamed of; if he killed the Prince, Agni would hate him...and it confused him that he didn't want that to happen.

Sometimes, he secretly hoped the young master would let him get rid of the three bumbling idiots that always added to his work pile, or get rid of that annoying distraction of a girl his young master was to marry. He dismissed this thought every time Finny came running up with a small bird held gently in his hands, the excitement in the young blond's eyes rather endearing.

Sometimes he wanted nothing more than to stay with these humans forever, the ones who made his rather dreary life that much more exciting, more entertaining. Perhaps, one day, just maybe, he'd release Ciel from their contract, so he wouldn't have to take away the very people that gave him such joy.

Sebastian shook himself from his thoughts as Ciel dismissed him from the study, his uncovered eye focused on the reports in his hands. The demon exited silently, walking down the hallway slowly, cursing his mind for coming up with such weak, pitiful ideas. He was a demon, a being incapable of compassion, of emotion, he shouldn't feel this way around humans - extraordinary humans, but they were mortal. They were pathetic, he could break their bones in seconds, could outrun any of them with no effort on his part.

But he didn't want to.

He wanted to slow down.

He wanted to mend their injuries.

He wanted to hear Finny's laugh, wanted to see Ciel grow to be the perfect gentleman, wanted to cook in a kitchen crowded with excess elbows, knobby knees, the smell of vanilla and cinnamon clouding his senses, the sound of laughter ringing in the room.

Oh, just throw him to the flames of Hell now!

The perfect image he so carefully crafted was as thin as a pastry sheet. And yet...as he heard Ciel's voice calling him back, and Bard calling out to him from the kitchen, he supposed he could let his image crack; after all, a demon like him rarely got the chance to play at having a family.

Even if he had to deal with a stubborn brat, a too-strong gardener, an overzealous chef, and a blushing maid, he doubted he'd trade them for anything.

Sebastian smiled and made his way back to the study, just to see that a certain redheaded reaper had come through the window. Ah, well, there were only a few things he had to complain about.

Perhaps I can get away with murdering Grell? Oh please my young master, let me do so!

"Sebastian, entertain Grell, I have work to do."

I'm going to strangle them all.
