After I first saw this, I always wondered what they talked about in the car, especially because Booth's reaction didn't seem right for his character, so the challenge gave me the perfect excuse to explore.
Disclaimer: - Blah blah etc, we all know I don't own anything.
He had just brought her the wood chipper, the only wood chipper in the area possible of mutilating her victim. The only wood chipper possible in helping them figure out exactly how this victim had been disposed of; the only way for them to reverse-engineer a hypothesis for the death.
He was also still ignoring Zack.
"I need you guys to run a dispersal pattern test in the chipper."
"Using what medium? Zack asked
"Assume the victim was frozen solid when he was fed into the chipper."
"No way!"
She turned around to get into the car; Booth leaned toward her slightly and said under his breath, "The correct response would be 'Yes Way.'"
"Oh, yes way." She hopped into the car, waiting for him to join her.
He'd brought her the wood chipper, this beast of a machine hogging up half the road, as she babbled to Boy-genius about squint-type stuff. His interest perking when he heard him exclaim "No Way!" watching as she made for the inside of the car, he informed her "The correct response would be 'Yes Way.'" He tried to stunt the smile creeping up his face and failed, it really was endearing the way she took his advice like that. As he looked up he saw Zack holding out his fist, he blanked his facial expression, a reminder of his Army training days – never let them know what you are thinking. He moved around the car and got in.
As he was driving away, he began to think about what Bones had been saying to Zack.
"Wait, you're doing some kind of test to do what with that wood chipper?"
"A dispersal pattern test."
"Yeah and how would you go about doing that? Stick a crash-test dummy through the chute?"
"No. One would need to use something that would best correlate a human body."
"You're shoving a cadaver through that thing?"
"No!" Bones exclaimed indignantly, "We're not morbid! We would only do that if it was written in their will that we could use their body in an experiment to better understand the nature of that specific scientific inquiry."
"Okay, we'll save that disgustingly perverse discussion for another day. What I want to know right now is what are you using instead of a human body?"
"A pig."
"A dead pig right?" Please, please be a dead pig.
"Yes a dead pig, Booth!" She seemed to be getting beyond frustrated now, something he'd better fix before she got too carried away.
"Sorry, just checking. You never know what's going to happen in happy, joy, joy, squint-land."
"Sarcasm never helps Booth, besides I need them to simulate what actually happened, I need Zack and Hodgins to recreate our victims death."
"That was the frozen solid bit right?"
"Right. To get an accurate dispersal pattern they'll need to feed a pig, frozen solid, through the wood chipper."
He pictured that for a second, "No way!"
"Yes way."
What did we all think? Can you review yourself?
