A/N: Hello again.
I realize I'm being an awful bi**h for not updating my other works and rather am publishing silly drabbles but please bear with me for I have lost my muse and cannot seem to find it. And I have only been able to write something as short as this by struggling very hard.
Anyway, this is a short drabble about what went through Kagura's mind during her last moments.
SPOILER ALERT (if you still haven't finished the series.)
Disclaimer: I announce with deep regret that I in fact do not own this series, and nor shall I ever for Rumiko sensei is a genius and I love her.
'Are you leaving?'
'Yes, this is enough.'
Kagura let a small smile stretch across her lips as she felt the last of her strength ebbing away. This was it. This was the end of the freedom she had sought after for so long, and had tried so hard to attain.
Was her fate so accursed that she was allowed to enjoy it for only such a short time? Slowly, her eyes gazed up at the man standing in front of her, his eyes locked onto hers, the gold orbs shining with a torrent of emotions that she scarcely allowed herself to hope he would possess.
She let out a soft chuckle at the irony of it all. This man, his tall frame towering over her, his hair blowing in the wind, shimmering like threads of silver, his cold eyes glowing like amber; the first time she had set her eyes on him, she had been filled with an unimaginable amount of hope. This man was the reason why she had come so far, he was the reason why Kagura had never once given up, because she believed that he would be able to make her wish come true.
But somewhere along the way she had given in to an emotion she had tried hard not to indulge; love. She loved this daiyokai, and even though she knew he was devoid of any feelings whatsoever, somewhere deep down she had hoped to live a life where her feelings were reciprocated.
And now, here he stood, and though his face hinted nothing, his glowing eyes spoke volumes. A tendril of pain crept into her heart as she realized what he meant, and why he was here right now, why his hand had reached for his sword, and why his heartbeat faltered when he realized the bitter truth of being unable to fend off her oncoming peril, but Kagura knew she was beyond saving.
The Gods must really hate her for granting her wish only to take it back the next second. Oh how she had longed to be lost in this man's embrace, and when there finally appeared a chance, it was time for her to go.
At last, she felt her strength slip away and her vision slowly getting darker until she could barely make out his form, and could just feel his presence. She felt the wind pick up as she fell, her hair coming loose.
'I saw you one last time…'
And with that she was gone, disappearing into the wind in a burst of petals and feathers.
Perhaps regret would come later, but for now…
'I am the wind. The free wind.'
A/N: So well that's that. Please review if you liked it. If you didn't, still review because I shall love you for all eternity.
Amen.
