Rant on Stereotypes
I, for one, have had a lot of experiences with stereotypes. I'm "emo" apparently. What your probably thinking right now it that I'm depressed and I cut myself. If you aren't, then congratulations. You are open minded.
For anyone who did think that I cut myself, then I hope I don't disappoint you when I say that I don't. Any person who cuts him/herself needs serious help and should see a psychiatrist.
Some people talk about illegal immigrants. Every time they see someone with an accent, they think "immigrant". Automatically. Some people even think stupid things like "They probably don't have a green card," or "They have no right to be here." What do they care? We're all people.
What's really sad, is when people see someone of a particular nationality and assume something that was made up by an idiot. Like Jewish people like money, the Irish are heavy drinkers, Asians are bad drivers, and that Muslims are terrorists. Though the Muslim stereotype has reasoning behind it(the reason is one I understand, I assure you.), not all Muslims are terrorists. In fact, a very small percentage of them are.
Why do humans stereotype? Because we're afraid. We're afraid of anything different than we are. If we're all "equal", than why do we persecute one another? It's idiotic. We're all human. We all deserve respect and rights.
If a Muslim were to convert to Christianity, would we think them terrorists? If a Jew converted to the Protestant religion, would we think him greedy? Of course not! Stereotypes are what start wars and cause terrorism.
Think about this the next time you see someone different. Equality for all.
