Gil turned around and did a double-take as he saw Catherine leaning against the wall.
"What are you doing here?"
She smiled. "I'm here because you're here."
When he continued looking at her, she sighed.
"I heard you had a bad day at work. I tried all your usual haunts: the museum, the rollercoaster." Her fingers skimmed along the bench. "It must have been a really bad day. It's been a while since I've seen you down here."
Gil sighed and turned back to the firing range. "I falsely accused a man of murder. His reputation is forever tarnished because of me."
"Did the evidence point to him?"
"Yes."
"Did you accuse him in good faith, or because you didn't like him?"
"The evidence pointed to him, Catherine."
She walked over to him, her hand on his shoulder. "Then stop beating yourself up over it. You can't control where the evidence goes. We just interpret it."
Gil turned to her. "I told you that once, a long time ago."
Catherine shrugged. "Not that long ago."
Gil nodded. "It seems like yesterday you were a rookie. Couldn't wait to do your first solo case."
Catherine grinned. "I didn't do a bad job of it when I finally did though, did I?"
"You were wonderful."
"I had a good teacher."
"You were a good student."
Catherine decided a change of subject was needed. It was no prettier, but certainly needed discussing. "Sara's cranky you took her off the serial case."
Gil groaned. "Well, she can kiss my ass."
Catherine smirked. "I'm sure she'd love to, but it's my ass first."
Gil rolled his eyes at her. "I didn't realize my ass was such a sought after item."
She walked over, her hand resting on his butt. "It's not bad."
Gil took her hand and turned her to face him. "Thankyou."
She cocked her head to one side. "What for?"
"For being here. For coming here."
Catherine smiled softly at him, squeezing his hand. "I'm always here, Gil. You just have to let me in." She took his free hand and squeezed it. "I love you, Gil."
He put his gun away before turning back to her. "I love you, Catherine."
"Ready to go home?"
Gil bent down and pressed a deep kiss to her lips. He pulled her tight against him, smiling into the kiss when he heard her moan.
When they pulled apart, Catherine glanced up at him, slightly dazed. "Wow."
"Now I'm ready to go home," Gil replied, taking his gun case in one hand and his other going to rest around her waist. "Whose turn is it to make dinner?"
