Blackness. That's all it saw. It did not know where it was, how it came to be or even… what it was. It opened its eyes. The creature was surrounded by water in a small chamber. Its legs, wings and tail were restrained by long metal chains. In its mouth was a long tube, probably for breathing. Outside the chamber were others just like it, some unconscious, others awake. The creature did not know how it had gotten here… but it needed to get out.
It tried to move, but the restraints were too heavy. It had to use brute force. It tore out the breathing tube and thrashed around violently. The chains snapped as it rammed against the chamber walls. With just one attempt, the walls shattered and the water flooded out. The creature stepped out of the chamber for the first time. It stood up to its full height, sniffing the air. Its blood red scales glimmered from the water. Its triple taloned feet still had the restraints with the chains broken off. Its tail, full of razor-sharp spines, flung off its restraint. A small black curved horn rested on the creature's nose, with a frill near the neck consisting of black spines, two longer than the others.
It heard something descend from the ceiling. Its yellow eyes narrowed as something on a long metal arm lowered itself down, its two pincers sparking with electricity. It sniffed the object curiously. Then, it shocked the creature, who growled in pain. It reared back and lunged, grabbing the object with its massive jaws. With a metal-screeching yank, it ripped the object from the arm and threw it to the ground, smashing it to bits. In a rage, the creature opened its mouth at the now sparking arm and unleashed a stream of sparky, sticky fire, engulfing the mechanical device.
When it had been completely incinerated, the whole room flashed red. "WARNING! SPECIMEN BREACH IN SECTOR SEVEN B! I REPEAT, SPECIMEN BREACH IN SECTOR SEVEN B! ALL TEAMS IN THE AREA, SUBDUE AND RECAPTURE THE SPECIMEN! I SAY AGAIN, SUBDUE AND RECAPTURE!" a voice blared. The creature flinched at the sound. A specimen? Was that what it was? It noticed something on a square-like object. On it was something resembling a double-helix, along with two other creatures merging together. These were "dragons" as it said on the square. One was called a "Deadly Nadder" while the other was a "Monstrous Nightmare". Below the two of them was itself. It was a combination of those two species. It looked around to see the other creatures burst free from their containers. It was clear now. They were all test subjects, experimented on. It let out an ear-piercing roar and charged out of the room, the others close behind.
In the corridors, humans shouted to one another and fired something too fast to be seen from their weapons. Some of the smaller hybrids, including a fast biped with a narrow jaw and poison tail, screeched as they collapsed. The red monster chomped down on a human and flung the puny thing aside. Something then exploded on its face. It growled as another human attempted to put an explosive in a long cylinder it had just fired. A black dragon hybrid snarled and pounced on the human, tearing it to shreds. The creature roared, sending more hybrids charging. The humans were eventually overpowered. The Nadder-Nightmare hybrid burst through a wall and stomped outside. It was night, and a full moon was shining. It noticed human watercrafts returning to the island. It let out a massive roar as it spread its wings and flapped them, taking to the sky. It had just gained its freedom, and it shall have it forever! For it had been unleashed…
