The most destructive element in the human mind is fear. Fear creates aggressiveness; aggressiveness engenders hostility; hostility engenders fear, a disastrous circle. – Dorothy Thompson.
I never took much heed to that quote, not understanding the true meaning of it.
But now I understand. After all, fear was around when various citizens started turning to dust and being blown away by the wind. Ladybug and I arrived to deal with the problem, reassuring people, telling them that their loved ones were coming back.
Then Ladybug collapsed, her breathing uneven, and like so many others, faded to nothing, her earrings the only remaining evidence of her existence.
That's when everything went to hell.
Chloe had tried to step up, even after her father had disappeared as well. But, nobody listened, and she went underground after she saw Sabrina vanish before her eyes.
I de-transformed at the nearest secluded alley and tried to call my father, my relief at his survival was unmatched, he told me, , in a familiar worried fashion, to come back home. But then my father screamed, and his phone hit the ground, after long minutes of calling for my father, begging for him to be alive, the line disconnected and I cried for the first time since Mum died.
Some people called this the End of Days, just as the Bible had foretold. Others attributed it to an unknown disease and tried to find the dust that had once been a person to try and find a cure, they were not successful.
Eventually, the fear turned to aggressiveness and that to hostility.
The problem was, all that hostility was directed at me.
They blamed me for this catastrophe, some signed petitions for me to be executed, like the days of old. Others just grabbed guns and tried to hunt me down.
I used to be optimistic about a negative situation, relating to how many I've gotten out of with positivity.
But, weeks later and the optimism is starting to run out.
Beings with armour had started appearing through glowing tears through the air itself, ravaging the survivors further. I did my best to defeat them, but nothing worked, not even Cataclysm.
Plagg was silent ever since Paris' dusting, and now he even refused to eat.
As I watched two groups shoot at each other from a distance, for seemingly no reason at all, I decided enough was enough.
I removed the earrings from my suit and put them on.
I'm going to fix this, damn the consequences.
Author's Note: I'm mainly writing this because I'm procrastinating on updating The Quest for Singularities, so yeah no more to be said.
