Owen Harper looked down at the tray of cookies in his hands with a frown. The tiny sugar-and-flour snowmen and reindeer were burnt almost beyond recognition and crumbling at the edges. Even his medical expertise hadn't quite been able to save them. Apparently in no one's rulebook did team doctor automatically equal excellent cook.

Nervously, he looked up from his hiding place near the cog door to where Tosh sat at her desk across the Hub, laughing at some joke Jack had just told her, then back down to what was supposed to be his early Christmas gift to her. What was she going to think? How had he ever thought this was going to work?

Sighing, he turned toward the nearest garbage, ready to dispose of the evidence of his failure, when a sudden surge of determination overtook him. He had put in all this hard work, hadn't he? He had stayed up all night slaving away over these little things, hadn't he? And for what, just to throw them away?

Then another thought occurred to to him. Perhaps Tosh wouldn't think badly of him for the attempt. After all, she seemed the type of girl who would appreciate the the gesture, the effort and the heart involved.

Still a bit nervous, but riding this new optimism, Owen waited until Jack retreated to his office before slowly approaching the woman at the desk. "Um, Tosh?" he said when he was close.

"Hello, Owen," she said, turning around to greet him with a smile that made his heart flutter. Then she caught sight of the try. "What's this?"

"Cookies," he said, holding it out to her. "Um, I made them. For you."

"For me?" She looked confused for a minute, then smiled. "How sweet." She looked down at the things on the try, and the look faltered a little. Owen watched with bated breath as Tosh reached out and tentatively picked one of them up. She looked at it for a moment before raising it to her lips and taking a small bite.

Owen waited as she chewed, desperate to know the results. He himself had thought the cookie he tasted was all right if not satisfying in appearance, but how was he to know what Tosh liked?

After what seemed like an eternity, the woman popped the rest of the cookies into her mouth, chewed, swallowed, and grinned. "These are fantastic, Owen," she said. "Where did you get the recipe?"

"On the back of the role of dough," he said sheepishly.

"You did great," she told him. "Even if they don't look perfect, they taste amazing. Thank you." Tosh picked another cookie, then looked at him again and held out the try. "Have one?"

"Sure, thanks." He picked up a snowman. "Merry Chistmas, Tosh."

"Merry Christmas, Owen," she answered with breathtaking smile.

The two clinked their cookies together in a toast before biting into them simultaneously.

In his office, Jack watched with a knowing grin on his face.
