Lucky Sophie

November 27th, 2000
Early morning
Sophie was sitting on a chair on the deck. It was early so no one was up yet, and the sun was just rising. The sky was in hues of pink right now and a song was playing on the radio:
This is a story about a girl named Lucky…
'What an unusual name…'
Early morning, she wakes up
'I'm up…'
Knock, knock, knock on the door,
'Roger woke me up…'
It's time for makeup, perfect smile
'It's time to hide behind my mask again…'
It's you they're all waiting for
'Come on, Soph, snap out of it. The kids need you.'
They go…
Sophie stood up, and walked in to the house to get dressed.
"Isn't she lovely, this Hollywood girl?"
Peter watches her and hears the music, 'She's so beautiful.'
And they say…
'They say that she's gorgeous.'
She's so lucky, she's a star
'She's my star.'
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
'Peter, I want to tell you. But I can't.'
If there's nothing missing in my life
'I have everything.' They think in unison.
Then why do these tears come at night?
Sophie walked out of the bathroom, trying to hide her face from him.
Lost in an image, in a dream
She sits down on the couch and falls asleep – dreaming of their not so far off wedding day.
But there's no one there to wake her up
Peter's asleep in the other room. He can't hear her crying through her dreams.
And the world is spinning, and she keeps on winning
The alarm clock goes off and both stir. They get up, and Peter kisses her when he comes into the living room.
But tell me what happens when it stops?
Peter moves away, and notices her red face.
They go…
"Are you okay?" He asks.
"Isn't she lovely, this Hollywood girl?"
"Yes, I'm fine. How do I look?" She replies, and then realizes what she just said.
And they say…
"You look like you've been crying."
She's so lucky, she's a star
"Why would I cry? I have everything."
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
'Peter, ask again. Please.'
If there's nothing missing in my life
"Are you sure?"
Then why do these tears come at night
She starts crying again, "No."
"Best actress, and the winner is…Lucky!"
"What is it, Soph?"
"I'm Roger Johnson for Pop News standing outside the arena waiting for Lucky"
Silence and then…
"Oh my god… here she comes!"
"Peter, I can't have children."
Isn't she lovely, this Hollywood girl?
"So?"
She is so lucky, but why does she cry?
"What did you just say?" She asks, between sobs.
If there's nothing missing in her life
"I said so? Sophie, I love you. Children or not, you are who I love."
Why do tears come at night?
She manages to choke out, "Really?"
She's so lucky, she's a star
"Yes."
But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
She returns to crying – for everything.
If there's nothing missing in my life
'I have everything.' Another unison thought.
Then why do these tears come at night
'But it still hurts.' She thinks.
She's so lucky,
"I love you, Sophie Lillian Becker. And I am lucky to have you."
but she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
"I love you, too, Peter Alexander Scarbrow, but it still hurts."
If there's nothing missing in my life
'I have everything when I have you.' Yet another unison thought.
Then why do these tears come at night?
And she finishes crying as the sun takes it's place in the sky and at Horizon, Xan is just rising – and thinking about Sophie.
