Prologue
December 1883: Clow's mansion, near Tomoeda, Japan
"…I will leave this world today," said Clow placidly.
He observed shocked denial in the two guardians, accompanied by rationalizations, arguments, and finally, anger. Clow had fully expected this, and was prepared for it, as he was for all else in life. And death as well, he mused wryly to himself. With calm detachment, he gave Cerberus and Yue the roles they would play once he was gone, and informed them that they would one day serve another master. They may be upset at him now, but this was all for the best. Sakura-san… you will be good for them.
All will be well. Balance will be maintained, and his creations will lead a happy life. His magic will neither be forgotten, nor will it cause chaos.
So he tied the loose ends. Cerberus was sealed into the book, and Yue's spirit was laid dormant and unreachable on a spiritual plane until his borrowed form would come into existence.
The day was now over, and night had taken its place. Satisfied and energy spent, Clow hefted open the doors of his house and strolled outside. As he walked, the frigid cold atmosphere withdrew and the ice and snow melted from the ground. Clouds blew away from the now star-filled sky, and a new warmth made its presence in the air. Clow nestled himself under the great Sakura tree, which abruptly burst into bloom, and gazed up into the endless midnight sky. A brief vision of a boy with hair exactly the same shade passed over his eyes, and he thought with fleeting remorse, I apologize for all the troubles I will have caused you… Eriol.
With no regrets, the greatest magician of the East and West rested his head against the tree's cool bark, closed his eyes, and breathed his last.
Over eighty years later, a young boy's eyes snapped open as a dark, raw power surged and flared within him.
Hello, everyone! For those of you who have not read my explanation of this fic in Tobira Wo Akete, my drabble collection, let me give you a little info:
-This fic will be a canon tale depicting Eriol's life from childhood to his time in CCS to adulthood.
-This will eventually be an EriolxTomoyo story, but it will take a long time to get there, and it will be EriolxKaho for quite a while. If you want instant ExT gratification, don't look here. If you dislike the ExT pairing, I want you to know that I won't bash Eriolxkaho, and in case you want to read this, I'm going to warn everyone once the pairing shift begins to occur. Once again, this will be really long down the line.
-This is not Tobira Wo Akete. It's going to be quite dark in the early chapters, and it will not be in drabble format. There will actually be long chapters; this one is short only because it's the prologue
-Lastly, this story will be based off the manga, not the anime. If you haven't read the manga, then some things in here will be confusing to you. I highly reccommend that you read the manga (or at least chapters 43-50) soon. A link is now on my profile to a site where you can read the scans.
