The first time he saw her she was still a tiny one, cradled in the arms of his loving mother. His eyes grew in excitement, with mixed emotions of pure happiness and confidence.
"Kagura." His mother said softly. He nodded in agreement, he kept his eyes bored to his little sister, so small and soft, a small patch of vermilion hair on her small head, long lashes intact to her closed lids.
"Do you want to hold her?" She asked him. He felt scared, for how could a little boy like him could ever hold such a dainty little baby.
"Come on, boy. It's your sister, hold her." His father patted his back.
He gulped lightly and held out his short arms, his mother carefully lifted her up and gently placed her on his arms.
He felt his breath shorten for a while, he held her close, tight enough to feel his sister's warmth. "Kagura-chan." He whispered shortly.
His mother smiled at her children, "Kamui, my little boy, you are now a big brother. Can you promise me one thing?" She looked at him deeply, serious but tender at the same time.
He held her closer to his chest, "Promise me, you'll always protect your sister."
He felt his chest pound as if he wanted to cry out loud, "Whatever happens, be by her side. Love your sister dearly as I love you." She finished off with her serene smile. Kamui felt like laughing and smiling and crying all at the same time, he was so proud yet so scared. Because all through his life he was the small one, Dad would always carry him around his back pretending as if a giant alien was hunting them around the living room, Mom would always sleep by him when he has nightmares, but now, he was the one to do it. He already has a small one to protect, to cherish, to love and to support.
"Yes, Mom." He sniffed between his almost inaudible words. He held his sister's small hands and she grabbed into his finger as she cooed in her dreams. "Don't worry, I'll protect you baby sister." He whispered kissing her forehead.
