Sayuri was very confused when her father woke her in the middle of the night and told her to pack her things.
She started being worried when she heard him rummage around the kitchen.
The ten year old girl, was outright terrified when her father grabbed her by the hand and led her to the car and she was able to see shier fear in his eyes.
Her father was never afraid.
He was the strongest and smartest and best dad there was.
What could make him so afraid that he would pack his things in the middle of the night and run away?
"Daddy, what's going on?" she asked in a tiny voice, clutching her plushie, Hebi-chan.
He glanced at her out of the corner of his eye.
Her fathers eyes were yellow, unlike hers which were brown, like her mothers.
"You know what I work as, right Sayuri-chan?"
"Yes, your a vir- viru- virolger?"
His lips quirked upwards.
"A virologist, hime."
The girl nodded sagely.
"There has been an accident at the lab. Some of the Testsubjects have escaped and we're leaving before they can cause any trouble."
The little girl frowned cutely.
"How much damage can a few mice do?"
The black haired mans face darkened.
"We weren't experimanting on mice, hime."
…
…
…
"This is starting to look like an epidemic. And we don't even know what this sickness is. In my entire career as a doctor, I've never seen something like this, it's like something out of a movie! People die and come back to live, only to run rampant and infect and kill even more People! Do you know how much of my staff has been killed in the last 24 hours alone?! And now you come here, Jiraya, and tell me that Orochimaru has fled the scene!" Tsunade Senju, current head of the Konoha Hospital, yelled at her childhood friend.
The white haired man didn't flinch or show any other sign of discomfort, he just stood there stony faced like the high ranking General he was.
Jiraya had been a very goofy child, but the military had knocked most of his brashness out of him, he could still be funny and rather perverted, if you got him drunk enough.
Tsunade sometimes couldn't really believe that the man in front of her and the boy she had known were one and the same person.
"Yes, he fled even before the alarm went up."
The blond haired woman threw her hands in the air.
"That's just great! The only man who could possibly understand- Alarm? What do you mean alarm?"
"The alarm, that informed us that some of the Testsubjects have escaped." Jiraya said calmly.
"Testsubjects?! Are you telling me Orochimaru made that thing?!"
The General nodded.
Tsunade slumped into her seat, opened a drawer of her desk and pulled out a bottle of whiskey and two cups.
"Isn't it a bit too early for that?" Jiraya asked, looking pointedly at the clock which read 10 a.m.
"Not in this kind of situation."
She poured the alcohol and handed her childhoodfriend a cup, before downing her own in one gulp.
"So, Orochimaru made a killer virus and launched it at humanity? Why would he do that?"
"The Testsubjects escaping was not part of the plan."
Tsunade shot out of her seat and stared at him incredulously.
"You sanctioned that?!"
Jiraya took a sip from his drink and answered.
"I ordered it."
"Why?!"
A grim smile crossed the mans face.
"Could you imagine what a biological weapon like this could do to Iwa?"
"Yes! It's happening to us right now! And we have no idea how to stop it!"
The general swirled the whiskey in his glass.
"It's based on rabies, that's all I can tell you about it."
"Is it all you know about it or is it all you want to tell me?"
The man stayed silent.
"I can't believe this... You're a monster!" The woman hissed at him.
Jiraya took another sip of whiskey.
"I'm a man of war... There's not much difference."
