The Christmas in July party continued into the early hours of the morning.

When Detective Inspector Jack Robinson made to leave, the Honourable Miss Fisher saw him to the door.

She watched as he put on his coat and wrapped the scarf around his neck. She opened the door and he stepped outside, hat in hand. Bracing himself against the door jamb, he nodded his head in farewell. "An adventure as always with you, Miss Fisher."

She simply grinned in response. "Merry Christmas in July, Jack."

She held his breath as he leaned in closer and pressed a soft kiss to her cheek. "Merry Christmas Phryne."

The palm of her cheek moved up to touch where his lips had been as she watched him walk down the path and into the darkness.

She didn't know how long she stood there before a voice interrupted her thoughts.

"... I can feel a draught, is the door - Oh, is everything alright Miss Fisher?"

Phryne turned to find her butler looking at her in concern, hands thrusting his coat collar against the cold.

"I'm fine Mr B," she said gaily as she stepped back inside one again. "Perfectly fine."

Finito.
