"Miss Fisher?"
The woman several feet short from the ground looked down at the speaker. "Hello Jack!" she said brightly.
Detective Inspector Jack Robinson crossed his arms over his chest. "Care to explain what you are doing at this hour?"
"I would love to explain, once I am back on solid land again that is," responded a breathless Miss Fisher.
Jack simply looked at her.
"A hand?" she asked with a winning smile.
"You seem to have it all in hand," he replied drily. "Far be it for me to interfere with your well laid plans."
She did her best to glare at him, but failed. "I will admit that I unfortunately failed to check the length of my escape rou-..."
Whatever she might have said next was lost in a stifled scream as the material ripped and Phryne Fisher plummeted the remaining distance.
Bracing herself for the hard impact of concrete, she opened her eyes to find herself in Jack Robinson's arms.
Her eyes caught his and time froze.
"Ah, sir?" interrupted Collins nervously after several long moments had passed. The pair turned to him as one. "The case?"
Jack coughed and allowed the woman he had caught to slide to the ground before stepping back. "Thank you Constable."
"If you wanted me on your arms, all you had to do was ask," Miss Fisher said lightly, patting his coat lapels. "Now follow me."
Watching the determined woman gather up the material, Jack Robinson shook his head and gave up.
Whatever was he going to do with her.
Finito.
