"Doctor?" Amy asked, casually leaning on one of the commands of the TARDIS's board.

"Yes, Pond? Any request? Any planet you want to see?"

"No. No, actually. I wanted to ask you something, About... The other night."

She said the last part lower, afraid of what would come next : rejection. Again. Amelia should not have felt this way. She had Rory, and she loved him. But she also knew that there was something between the Doctor and her. That extraterrestrial sparkle. And even if she already tried to forget it, Amelia could not.

Blushing, she looked back at her special friend through her fiery hair.

"What other night are you talking about?" he simply asked, running around the machines,

"You know... When I told you about... About my wedding."

Her cheeks got even redder and she turned around to avoid his questioning eyes.

"What about that night?" he asked, sounding slightly embarrassed. It was a first. The Doctor never acted like that in front of her... Yet.

"I kissed you. And you... Pushed me away."

"Psh! Of course I did!" he muttered, slowly walking away from where Amy was standing. "You were about to get married, Pond."

"But..."

Would she dare to finish her sentence? Once again, she turned her back on him.

"But what?" the Doctor insisted, suddenly walking towards her, He was acting weirder than usual.

Before she could even open her mouth, Amelia realized her friend was just behind her. She could hear him breathing right next to her left ear. She could feel him. Quickly, she said :

"What if I did not tell you about the wedding ?"

The Doctor remained silent.

"What if I did not get married ?"

"You would still be human," he answered. "And I would still be... Me."

"Oh, do not try to make me believe it ever stopped you before!" she laughed nervously.

"You are right. It did not. But I guess I changed."

"So, you would have pushed me away anyway ?"

"Yes."

"Right..."

He was still behind her, she could still feel it, but his back was now against hers. And so were his shoulders.

"Are you upset?" he asked, gently.

His right hand brushed against Amy's, then grabbed it.

"Did I say something wrong?"

As Amelia squeezed the Doctor's hand, he leaned the back of his head against hers.

"It's not you, it's me." she stuttered.

Her voice was shaking, but they both pretended not to notice.

"Rory––" he started.

"What about him, now?"

"Rory is lucky to have you, Amy Pond. You are quite a good kisser, from what I remember."

"Oh, I know I am!" she giggled, surprised by the turn the discussion took. She let go of his hand, turned around, smiling, and added : "Thank you."

He turned around too in order to finally face her, and slowly put a hand on her left cheek. He was almost caressing it.

"Very lucky, indeed."

And he kissed her lips. Really, really softly.

"Very ––"

"Doctor?" she interrupted him, shocked, but deeply satisfied of what just happened.

With his thumb, the Doctor slowly caressed Amy's lips then his hand left her cheek and he put it behind his back. He looked like he was trying to find how to get out of this awkward situation.

"SO!" he suddenly yelled, running around the TARDIS's command board again. "Weren't we supposed to visit Rio? Carnival! Fiesta!"

He started to jump around instead of running, and added :

"Call Rory, we're landing in five minutes!"
