The forest was bathed in mist and darkness, could barely see anything on the horizon. The eyes of nocturnal animals shone like incandescent lights as they observed the two people pacing nervously.

DB and Sara were walking slowly, looking, searching on the surroundings anything that could help them to find what both craved to. Hope in heart and guns in hand.

-We have been fooled, DB, he's not here! They are playing with us.- Sara said, pausing and looking at her supervisor. She tried to stay calm and not show her true desperation. But it was obvious to a careful observer.

-Right now, this is all we have. Maybe we'll find something here that ... - the sound of footsteps stopped DB mid sentence. Both CSI's raised their guns to the front, their 5 senses alert.

However, the view before them made them lay down their weapons almost instantly.

Nick Stokes stood there, right in front of them, still like a statue. A mixture of surprise and relief combined on Sara and DB's faces.

-Nick! - called a smiling Sara, waving at her partner. But he did not return the gesture. He just stood there. His gaze was bleak, grim.

Russell and Sara looked at each other, confused by this behavior and then retry to interact with Nick.

-Nick? - Sara raised her arm in his direction - Are you O…- a thunder echoed through the forest. DB took a step back and Sara flinched.

Nick's eyes widened, they went to his belly as he surrounded himself with his arms. His look went up and meet Sara's scared one, before falling onto his knees.

No ... .no no NO! – shouted the CSI as she ran towards her friend, that after so many years loved as a brother. Sara Sidle had never run so much in her life. She reached him before his head hit the ground, prenssing the wound in his chest. Her hand quickly full of blood. Sara removed her jacket and placed it on the gunshot wound as she lay Nick's head on her lap. Her other hand stroking his hair.

DB ran towards them as he watched the surrounding searching for the culprit, pulling out his phone to call for backup and an ambulance.

Nick and Sara's eyes met again. Her eyes clouded with tears that she didn't bother to swallow.

-Sa ... Sar..a- his mouth filled with blood.

- Shh, don't talk, Nick - a sob escaped from her lips. Her tears rolled down her cheeks and fell on Nick's paleface – just, just rest, everything it's going to be fine, I promise…-

And Sara Sidle never breaks a promise.
