"Don't leave me!" Her voice pierces the fragile dark. The lucky few whom had managed to drift to sleep were now awake. Though most pretended to still in slumbers hold unwilling or unwanting to deal with their own pain let alone someone else's. At least not yet.
"Shush. Shush. I'm here." Another voice. Calmer. Soft.
"Don't leave me." She repeats. Almost pleads. There some grumbles and mutters in both English and Trigedasleng.
"I won't. I promise. Never.' There is a pause. Even across the room and attempt at intimate conversation it was heard or rather not heard. 'Never again."
"That's a promise you can't keep Marcus. No one can." His sigh is almost heart breaking.
"I can try though. That's all we can do Abby. Now please go back to sleep."
"I have things I should be doing." She mutters almost unhearable and begins to sit up from her cot. The protest of the spring competing as the loudest sound thus far.
"No. You should be sleeping. We all should be." Nearly every person in the room instantly thinks Marcus is addressing them and guilt seeps in for a second for listening at all and being caught.
"But…"
"I don't want to hear it. You need sleep. We need our doctor rested.' Another pause. 'I promise you'll be safe and I'm not leaving you. Now please go back to sleep."
