'He's got Padfoot!' Harry shouted, 'He's got Padfoot at the place where it's hidden!'

Snape stopped with his hand on Umbridge's door handle. Thoughts flew through his mind. Could this be the moment where Dumbledore had warned them for? Did Harry indeed mean what he thought?

'Padfoot?' cried Professor Umbridge, looking eagerly from Harry to Snape. 'What is Padfoot? Where what is hidden? What does he mean, Snape?'

Snape looked around at Harry, he kept his face inscrutable for he knew he must not make any mistake now in front of Umbridge. However, Harry's face told him that it was true what he had heard. Lily's son had seen Sirius in the Department of Mysteries, there was no doubt about that. Nevertheless, it was ever so pleasing to see Harry suffer for he did not know whether Snape had understood his message and Snape was planning to keep it up, he didn't have to let Harry know after all; it was none of his business.

'I have no idea,' said Snape coldly. 'Potter, when I want nonsense shouted at me I shall give you a Babbling Beverage. And Crabbe, loosen your hold a little. If Longbottom suffocates it will mean a lot of tedious paperwork and I am afraid I shall have to mention it on you reference if ever you apply for a job.'

Snape smiled on the inside, and then closed the door behind him with a snap. How good it felt to see Harry in such a state, he was so much like his father, James. He deserved it, for all James had ever done to him. Snape felt satisfaction for a minute, but then he thought of Lily. Lily's son with her eyes, even though he was so much like his arrogant father, still he had Lily's sweet eyes. The satisfaction disappeared and was replaced with doubt. Maybe he had been wrong to keep Harry in the dark like this, he might do foolish things as always now. He shook that thought away quickly. He was not going to care for James Potter's son, all that matters were Dumbledore's orders so Lily's death would not have been in vain.

With that final conclusion, his face was once more inscrutable and he swept away, bat-like, towards Dumbledore's office. He would still be as he promised a messenger of secrets.
