Note : Hmmm ok. So this fanfic was written for the challenge of JustPaulInHere where I'd to write in English on different tenses. Dunno if it's ok…. Tried. Haha. English is not my native langage, yes !
Note 2 : Thanks to nagron for the little (big) corrections. Unfortunately she never answered for the rest and… I wanted to post my fanfic anyway.
Note 3 : And I did the challenge of Lys de Pandore with "double identity" haha.

Peter was a thief. He didn't remember when it started, but it was a fact. Stealing things was so easy for someone like him. A mutant, who could run fast enough that normal human eyes couldn't keep up with him, had silver hairs, healed fast, do all the things fast. He knew he had an advantage over most people.
Peter took food without buying them from shops, with a grin smile. Peter knew no one could see him, he was too fast for their poor normal human eyes.

Except that he was so proud of him, so braggart, he arrived on shops with a grin smile, with a normal speed and….Well. The cameras did see him coming. And go. With stock of foods.
So, there were some times, when his mother had to let the police come and talk with him. Then, he was never afraid.

After all, Peter was here on this cellar all the time! No camera saw him. No one saw him. He was just an innocent geek who loved to play video games, he had no idea of what the hell is going on and why the cops were here.

But it was a lie. Because Peter was a thief. Peter stole from people.

He pretends, but it was his true identity. Like a double identity.

A poor bored thief. Because all the things was too easy. Because his brain went too fast. Because the rest of the world was too slow.

Peter was a thief, yes. A poor thief with no father, just a mother, a not-so-good mother who couldn't stop him.

But it was what he was.

Now, he has lived in The Xavier Institute. He let the cellar of her mother.
He has been an X-man. He has saved the world with the rest of his new friends. Kurt, Ororo, and… His father.
He has been a thief, but it helps to have some speed powers for this.
He has acted like this thug, ready to do a pun or find something cool because why not. Even after go out of the cellar he act like this.
It was his true identity, right ?

Or not.
He has been this punk, but he has been since not so long, the son of his father. Father that he has never thought to meet.
But, he has met Erik, and he knew that nothing be the same after this.

Peter arrived when mutants needed him. Peter was here when his father was not on a good mood. Peter fought even if he still was the same thief. And he would always be.

Peter thought he could be a hero with the other mutants.

It was the first time that Peter thought to be someone useful. For people.

It was the first time, his thieving skills helped him for something other than stealing. It was the first time he was only Peter Maximoff, the thief superhero. Not only Peter the thief or Peter, Magneto's son or Peter the little-brat-what-I-going-to-do-with-you ?

And he thought.

'What if I'm not a thief,' Peter thought. 'What if I'm just an incredibly fast guy?'
What if he hadn't been a thief? Then he couldn't have helped Charles search for Erik.

Will he know that Erik was his father ?

And what if he had had the courage to said I'm your son?

If his mother was still with his father then...

But there was no need for that many Ifs in Peter's life. It was already too much.

Peter was Peter. With his skills, with his point of view, with the fact that he was the son of Magneto.

Peter was Peter.

And even if sometimes he got the impression of being two people (the thief, the hero, and maybe the son of Magneto too) with this double identity that couldn't come together.

He was himself.

It was his true identity.
And it would help him to become what he was meant to be.
