Rose's laugh made the Doctor feel young again.

The Time War had taken everything from him: his family, his people, his world. He was ready to live his life alone, just him and the TARDIS, traveling throughout time and space until he died.

And then Rose ran into his life. She was everything he wasn't: young and carefree. The Doctor showed her the world and she taught him how to smile again. Nothing was ever easy with her, and he became very protective. He hated admitting it, but he did become jealous when Adam briefly joined them in the TARDIS. Slowly but surely, the Doctor was falling in love with Rose Tyler.

Today, Rose was very quiet, and the Doctor really couldn't blame her. She'd seen her father die twice yesterday, and even though she'd spent his final moments with him, he could tell that she was putting on a brave face. Her mood cast a somber feeling over the TARDIS.

"Rose," the Doctor said as he changed their direction, "Go grab a coat!"

"What?" she asked, getting up from the floor.

"A coat!" he repeated. "And a hat, some gloves, and a pair of boots."

"What about you? From the sounds of it, your little jacket won't be warm enough where we're going."

The Doctor rolled his eyes. "Fine, I'll change my coat."

While Rose dressed, the Doctor checked their location. For once, the TARDIS had landed exactly where he wanted to go. "Thanks, dear," he whispered. "Ready, Rose?"

"Yeah, I'm ready!" Rose walked into the console room dressed for the weather. She handed him a knit stocking cap. "Don't want you to catch cold, wherever we are."

"Go look outside. I've got to grab a couple things in the back."

Rose was still standing by the doors when he walked back with the skis and poles.

"All I see is snow out there."

The Doctor grinned as he opened the doors, letting in the cold temperatures and snow. "The year is 2603, and this is Mount Everest."

Rose stared at him. "You're joking."

"Nope!" the Doctor answered. "You're about to ski on Mount Everest."

"And people can do this now?"

"Yep! Anybody can ski on Everest. It's just like taking a picnic on the moon."

"So, where do we go?" Rose asked as the Doctor gave her a pair of skis.

"Well, there's that course down there," he began, pointing left to a flagged area. "And there's that course over-" he stopped as he noticed that Rose was no longer next to him. "Rose?" He walked out of the TARDIS and looked up. Rose was already climbing higher up the mountain.

"Oi!" The Doctor shouted, racing after her. "What do you think you're doing?"

"If I'm going to ski on Mount Everest, I want to go a bit higher!"

"Have you ever skied before?"

"No, but it can't be that ha-"

Rose lost her balance and started sliding right towards him. Soon, they were both tumbling down the mountain, Rose laughing the entire way. The Doctor shut his eyes and felt the weight of the Time War disappear into the cold white snow.
