Stone Cold : An Infinity War one-shot
It was the dawn of a new era.
An era where I could finally be at peace with the universe.
The sacrifices I had made, all for this one moment. A moment of watching the sun set on a grateful universe, of which all who lived in it had their futures secured and would someday recognise my efforts as those of heroism.
Yes. The dawn of a new era was upon us.
But, alas...I could not enjoy it.
Perhaps it was the mere fact that my daughter was not there with me. But if she had been there, I never would have been able to retrieve this order, this peace.
Yet, a voice in my mind seemed determined to cause doubt in myself regarding what I had done to manage it to this point.
"Did you do it?"
Of course I did it.
I had to do it.
The council of Titan would not accept my vision of what our world could've been and what was the result?
My home, burned and transformed into no more than a barren wasteland.
My people, eventually slaughtered by the chaos erupting from the simple dilemma of there not being enough food to go around.
And the consequence, more phenomenal than the council could have possibly forseen.
So yes. I did it. And one day those in the galaxy would have thanked me for ensuring not all lives were lost.
"What did it cost?"
That...I had no answer for.
My whole life was spent entirely focused on this moment. Every second, every day, every plan, every detail - It all came down to this.
But affection was the burden of being mortal.
All this power, and she still held me back from recognisif how truly remarkable that moment was.
The one person I had loved, maybe even close to the dream of this moment, gone because of it. The one whom I had raised since she was a child, I had so carelessly tossed away.
I had built the final moments of my triumph up in my head so much that I was almost...afraid to face reality.
And yet, here I was.
The sun, in it's might, glistening against the cascading clouds.
The bliss, nearly unfathomable, but there nonetheless.
And what did it cost me?
To that, I realised, there was only one accurate answer.
Everything.
End of one-shot.
So...that was kinda deep, even for my writing style.
I guess I can sorta see where the dude is coming from, but (and this is a message to everyone out there):
An apocalyptic genocide is not the solution to a problem.
The hunger crisis in LICs (low income countries) is getting out of hand. The thing that'll solve that is simple:
Give to charity.
It's one of the most meaningful things in life. Knowing that you've made a difference in the world for the greater good. Knowing that you've made someone's life better.
That is what will make the sun set on a greatful universe, not whatever persuaded Thanos to wipe out half of it.
Thanks for taking the time to read!
