Per-face.
I had been through this and through it again. I fought my way through countless new death experiences, when I was human and knowing that I could not defend those I love most. But now even as I can defend my family I find myself wishing I could do more. Feeling weak and helpless as ever…
Chapter.1.
Bella POV .everyone seemed to be bouncing every since Alice said "there is a storm coming". Like a huge weight was lifted off their shoulders. Jasper, Rose, Edward, all seemed excited just to play baseball again while Emmett thoughts were (courtesy to my husband's talent) centered on revenge. Amazingly he was still pissed about that arm wrestle I won so many months ago. And honestly I was scared. NEVER in my two lives have I ever played baseball which was a huge cliché on my part considering Phil's occupation. I had once told Edward about my problem, but he just laughed and said: "but, Bella you are good at everything." Then he would smile his very best crooked smile and I couldn't argue anymore. Even Nessie, who couldn't play because she was half human and could get hurt, was just as excited to watch on the sidelines with her grandmother. I wasn't the Strong-As- Hell newborn I once was. Even my eyes had settled into a honey auburn now. But even as I fretted I too was excited. I remembered watching the Cullens play baseball when I was human: I was amazed at how awesome and spectacular they all were. And I would finally be a part of that. Finally.
It was twilight when we started to gather at the huge field. Nessie took my hand then Edward's. I heard Edward chuckle. "Which question would you like for me to answer?" he asked. Nessie (who was technically 7-years –old now) pursed her perfect lips. "Is baseball as fun as grandpa says it is?" she asked. I smiled. It was funny to see Charlie influence Nessie. I was horrified when I thought he would never play any role in my daughter's life. "Charlie has his own opinion, sweetie". I said. She made a face. Suddenly her thoughts mixed into mine. She was remembering one of the plenty afternoons we spent at Charlie's house, he had on a game of when the Red Socks were playing against Braves .she couldn't imagine us being so sluggish and ungraceful. She expected more from us …more from me. Seeing how I was already the most perfect person on earth. The last part was her quote.
That was great. She looked up to me. Now I had to look good. How was I supposed to keep up with that?
What if I ended looking like a fool?
"brilliant." I muttered.
Edward laughed guessing my thoughts. "Its apart of being a parent, love." he gazed over at me appraisingly. "Plus you are the most perfect person on earth. You'll do great".
I snorted. Vampire or not I still felt like Bella. He winked at me. "You'll see, love." He gestured over to the center of the field to where our family was at. Nessie smiled then laughed. It was either in anticipation to the game or because Jacob was suddenly in front of us. She dashed into Jake's waiting arms. I held back a very unfriendly growl and put on a smile. Jake didn't deserve the harshness I gave him. "Hiya Bells. What's up?" Jake asked.
"Nothing much. But how did you know we were here?"
Jake's face darkened, "well…"
"You ease dropper."I accused.
He shrugged. "Nessie was thinking about it earlier this week… so I decided to drop by."
"Without an invite." Then I laughed. "You could've asked, I would've said yes anyways."
He smiled his very best Jacob-y smile. "Thanks a lot Bells. Ready to play ball?"
Edward laughed. "She is going to have to be. It's starting."
I groaned as I watched my family gather into teams in the center of the field. It was now or never. Please let me an amazing vampire.
"Good luck mommy" Nessie called as we walked away.
I would need it.
