Just a little idea that popped out of my head today :) Bear with me if it's a little trivial.

No one, no one at all, in fact, thought of these two coming together. The most unlikely pair in Konoha. That's what they were.

Their names? Nara Shikamaru and Hyuuga Hinata.

Not a single soul in Konoha would have ever suspected the two 17 year olds to have come together.

No one. Not ever their closest friends or even their mere acquaintances. Most would think, not even themselves.

But really, who would have ever thought of the shy Hyuuga heiress and the lazy Nara genius?

They didn't, but they did. They found a thrill with one and other. A spark. A flame.

Hinata and Shikamaru, well, they understood each other. Their hopes, their dreams, their wishes. They could confide their deepest secrets with each other and they would never even suspect the other of spilling what has been said.

She could be weak without being looked down upon, and he could be lazy, himself, without being yelled.

It was April. The air was warm and sweet and the air was crisp. A soft breeze fluttered through the village giving the place a calm and peaceful atmosphere.

But, this was a working village, so of course it was loud. And to the two teenagers' ears, it was 'troublesome'.

They went to their special spot. A quaint meadow hidden with trees and a clear open view of the sky.

Oh, how they loved the sky. It had what they wanted. Freedom. And the clouds? They could be free. They had no care in the world.

They sat down in their meadow, secluded from the village and the loud noises emitting from it.

The two lay lazily on a grassy hill gazing at the clouds floating aimlessly about, fingers weaved together.

"Tell me, Hinata," Shikamaru said.

"Hai?" the girl spoke.

Her voice: it was calm, soothing to Shikamaru. She wasn't loud or obnoxious like most of the females in his life. And on rare occasions when she did lash out, he could tolerate it without blinking.

He spoke again, "To you, what is the difference between love, infatuation, and admiration?"

"Pardon?"

She was taken back by his question. She pondered for a little then smiled and went back to looking at the clouds.

"Admiration," she started, "is what I felt for, Naruto, all those years in the academy."

He looked at her and smiled. He had always known that she felt admiration towards the blonde haired shinobi even now. He had what she wanted. Strength, determination, and by training for so many years, she finally got it.

"Now, infatuation," she thought a little while listening to the winds rustling through the trees, ruffling their leaves.

"Infatuation…" she trailed off to think of an example," is how I felt for Kiba when we graduated from the academy.

He smiled again. She had seldom blushed at the dog boy when he was helping with her training, but in time, she had learned to brush it off.

"And love?" he asked.

She sat up and leaned against a tree and pulled his head onto her lap.

Hinata looked down at him and smiled, "Easy," she stated.

He leaned up to kiss her and she returned it and smiled. She pulled him into closer and murmured into his neck, "It's what I feel when I'm with you."
