Of Broken Arms, Furniture, and Family Prejudices

"Oi, Rosie," Al yelled from across the room, frantically trying to dodge Malfoy's curses. "Is there by any chance you can hex your long lost 'love' and save your cousin?"

Grasping the meaning of his words, Rose blushed a bright Weasley red, and propelled herself at Al, tripping over the lampstand and upturning the couch. She ended up falling straight into Scorpius, knocking him and his wand over.

"Thanks Rose!" Albus cries, scurrying across the living room to the base of the stairs in a hurry. He probably didn't want to face the wrath of Malfoy again. Speaking of Malfoy…

"Rose, wHAT THE HELL, DID YOU DO TO MY ARM-" Rose took this time to sit up and get a wonderful view of Malfoy's seething face, "IT'S BROKEN, YOU LITTLE SHIT, I HAVE A QUIDDITCH MATCH AGAINST JAMES POTTER TOMORROW AND YOU DO THIS TO ME!"

His face was heating up with every word, slowly turning a bright cerise, and Rose watched this happen with a degree of enjoyment until Malfoy, the stupid git he is, started turning purple.

"Er, Scorpius, are you ok?" Al, the idiot that he is, stood behind Rose watching Scorpius turn purple.

"Of course he's ok Al, because that's exactly what humans do when they're ok, tuRN PURPLE!" Rose bit out. Scorpius was still turning purple, from god knows what.

Rose bit her lip and her eyes glazed over, a sure sign that the cogs inside her brain were churning on how to not let Scorpius die.

"Uhh. Al, I'm gonna try a spell thats relatively new, so stand back, ok?" Her demeanor changed as she pulled her wand out of her pocket and gestured for Al to get out the way. She swished it around in the air multiple times in some weird patterns, and then, whispered, wand pointed at Scorpius, "iterum respirare"

Lo and behold, Scorpius started breathing again, his face returning to its normal color- well at least somewhat normal. He huffed out a few breaths and then started to open his mouth.

"Weasley," he croaked, voice dry, "have I ever told you that you are gorgeous?"

Rose, despite her animosity towards Scorpius, started to blush, from the tips of her ears to her cheeks. Her brows furrowed and Scorpius smirked, which should have looked silly when he was lying on the floor. Should have, Rose thought, but is actually quite attractive.

As if Rose's eyes didn't have enough to see during the smirk, he smiled. The bloody arsehole smiled. How was she ever supposed to hate him when he looked so peaceful and bloody cute when he smiled?

Snap out of it Rose! You're better than this git! He must be under the influence of the spell. You hate him, he hates you! Rose did remember reading somewhere that the initial effect of the spell would have the patient a little.. tipsy. That was the only explanation for this.

"Erm Rose?" Al's voice cut her out of her reverie, "are you alright? You look a bit dazed."

Rose shook her head violently to snap out of her traitorous thoughts and refocused her gaze on Al.

"I'm fine Al, just thinking about the spell I used on Scorpius," Rose replied, and thanked her brain for lying to Al so smoothly. Not that it would matter, as Al was quite oblivious anyway.

Scorpius, meanwhile, started to use the nearby table to help himself up to a sitting position.

"Urgh." He grunted(or was it a groan?) and Al and Rose looked towards him, "I think my arm is broken."

"Do you want me to heal it?" Rose asked at the same time that Al asked, "Should we get someone to heal it for you?"

The Burrow was empty and free for the first time ever that Rose had resided in it, and now more than ever, she needed someone, anyone in the house so that she could slink back into a corner and not be noticed.

"No offense Rose, I know that you want to touch my biceps, but I think I would do better off with an actual healer," Scorpius chuckled, although, not in a warm way.

Rose huffed and rolled her eyes, "The day I want to touch your bicep is the day that your father will shrink to the size of your brain, which is almost nonexistent."

"Wow, that was such a horrible insult, I am on the verge of tears. You have caused me such pain," Scorpius deadpanned.

"It must have been somewhat good, as you couldn't come up with a comeback for it," Rose tilted her head in a cocky way, a ghost of a smirk gracing her lips.

Scorpius raised his eyebrows and then frowned,"Oh, you're really asking for it now. At least I don't have -

"Can you guys shut up! I'm trying to think where to take Scor so that his arm can be healed!" Al interrupted Scorpius's threat, shaking his head in a condescending manner.

"Why are you thinking? St. Mungos is the only obvious choice, Al!" Rose chimed, and Scorpius for once, nodded his head in agreement for something Rose had to say. Al sighed in disappointment and rubbed his temples with his hands.

"It's closed today, you pricks! It's running out of funds, so it gave a day off to it's staff. Didn't you two look at the news this morning?" Al didn't know who to call. All of their younger cousins were at a wizarding camp, and anyone older than them were at some weird wizarding show that only allowed wizards that were 18 and older.

"I mean, I'm sure we can wait it out, right? If we just keep Scorpius on bedrest or something?" Rose asked, unsure of why Al was walking a hole into the carpet.

"No way! I have to go back to the Manor this evening, and if my parents find out that I'm hurt, they'll never let me come back," Scorpius answered Rose's question with a determined look in his eyes.

"Fine, fine. I'll just apparate to Alice's house to ask Uncle Neville for help. Is that good enough for both of you?" However authoritative Rose's tone was, her solution was the first and best that anyone had come up with so far.

"Rose, there is no way in hell that I am gonna let you apparate out of this house. Remember the last time you apparated? Who got in trouble?" Al let that question linger until a guilty look settled on Rose's face, "uh-huh. It was me. So no. You are not apparating."

"Yeah well, I'm not flooing either!" Rose sent a determined look in Al's direction,"I ended up in that random guy's house when I last flooed, and it took ages for you to find me. So either let me apparate, or you floo to Alice's house." And that was that.

When Rose concluded her ultimatum, she didn't expect Al to take her up on it. Which is why, she, Rose Weasley, was stuck, alone, in an empty house, with none other than Scorpius Malfoy. Al had flooed to Alice's almost right after he and Rose entered their disagreement, so it was just her now. Her and Scorpius.

"Er, Rose? Could you please help me off the floor?" Scorpius's teeth were gritted in pain as he tried to maneuver his arm to a better position to rest.

"Oh, sorry, here," Rose crouched to the floor and lifted his good arm over her shoulder, "ok, we get up on the count of three. One,"

Scorpius heaved his legs towards him,

"Two,"

He rocked back and forth, gaining momentum,

"Three."

Rose and Scorpius pushed off the floor together, and were standing.

"Ok, I know that you should definitely lay down, but the question is, where?" Rose scanned the living room, with the upturned couch and lampshade, and then looked up the stairs.

"How would you feel about laying down in a guest room?" Scorpius groaned, and Rose flashed her most marketable smile.

Rose was really regretting her choice of knocking Scorpius over when they approached the guest room. The bed was simple and small, with faded pink sheets and pillows. There was a chair within close proximity of the bed, and one window at the end of the room, so that Rose could enjoy the overcast gloom of that day. She really, really regretted it when Scorpius asked her a question.

"Rose? Could you stay with me? It's kinda freaky staying here without anyone."

Rose sighed, and knew that his reasons were valid, because if she were staying at the Manor alone, she would want someones company, even Scorpius would suffice.

"Fine, but I do have some summer reading to catch up on, so don't expect me to talk."

I'm fine staying alone in a room with Scorpius. Just fine. It's not like I like him or anything, right? Just hate. Hate and that is it. Period. The End. Done.

"Rose?" Scorpius asked.

"Yes?"

"What spell did you use to get me to breathe?"

Rose looked at him curiously and answered, "iterum respirare"

"Oh. Were there weird side effects? Did I say something or anything that was embarrassing?"

Rose thought this was an odd request as people usually wanted to forget something that was embarrassing, however she complied,

"You said that I was gorgeous or something. That spell must have messed with you pretty bad, huh?"

"Yeah," Scorpius chuckled awkwardly, "pretty bad."

An awkward silence filled the tiny guest room, making Rose uncomfortable. She hated silences that weren't comfortable, growing up in a gigantic family. In an attempt to fill it she asked,

"So, why were you mad at Al this morning?"

"Well he got me all hyped up for this amazing show about aurors or something and then told me that we were too young and I got mad. Very, very mad." Scorpius replied, with an air of certainty.

Rose laughed, the sound tinkling through the air, surprising Scorpius. Her laughter was something that was very genuine and pretty and he took a moment to admire it. In an attempt to avoid another awkward silence, Scorpius asked the next question

"What do you want to do after Hogwarts?"

"Well I would love to become a Healer, I would be content to work at a good Hospital, maybe St. Mungo's. I just want to help people get better and live their lives better," Rose concluded, a soft serious look on her face, "what would you like to do?"

"I know it's kind of weird and all, me being the son of Draco Malfoy, but I would like to become an auror. I want to get rid of all these people who harm others, because my dad knows what it feels like to be punished, heck, even I know. So I wanna become an auror," Scorpius's answer was sweet, Rose had to admit, and his face was pulled into a thoughtful smile.

After that, they were both mostly lost in their thoughts, however, the awkwardness of the situation had eased. Rose would gaze out of the window ever so often, and Scorpius would admire the carefree, at ease expression on her face. Similarly, when Scorpius would have a peaceful face Rose would look over and smile.

"Do you ever wish that what your family did wouldn't affect you?" Scorpius was the one to break the comfortable silence that had blanketed the room.

"Oh, yes. All the time," Rose made a face, and Scorpius laughed, "Everyone expects me to study like mum, and have my dad's temper or whatever, but I just want to be me, ya know?"

Scorpius's demeanor changed immediately after these words left Rose's mouth. His eyes hooded over slightly, and his relaxed position turned rigid again.

"Yes, you have it so hard. The daughter of two of the saviours of the wizarding world complaining about social pressure," Scorpius laughed bitterly, "I was discriminated from the day I was born, and you complain about how you can't be you."

Rose was shocked and hurt at the venomous tone that came along with Scorpius's statement. She also sat up in her "battle stance," a cold face and straight back.

"Oh, I'm sorry. I thought we were getting along for a moment there, seems I was wrong," She quipped sarcastically, "Well, what I said wasn't fair, but it isn't fair that you've also been a stuck up arsehole for sixteen bloody years of your life. Maybe if you actually tried -

"Don't you dare tell me about trying, Weasley," His voice was getting dangerously low and frigid,

"don't you dare."
