There are few words that could possibly describe the man who we have gathered here to remember. Strong, loyal and confident are just some of the words that I would use to describe him. In times of trouble, he would always find a way, but sadly, this time he was unable to rise above the terrible war which has surrounded us all and swallowed so many of us alive.

A war that Captain Rex fought valiantly, although it was not really his war to fight.

Produced as a member of an elite army which would bring the Republic victory, Rex never questioned why he was fighting, but always with a somber demeanor would remind us all that there was no final plan for him or his brothers. There was no "after the war" for members of the clone army, just the here and now.

They were young, but we asked of them adult actions. Accelerated their growth until some feared that they would become old before the end of the war. This is our shame.

We the people and defenders of the Republic asked Rex and all those like him to do what we would not do. We asked them to lay their lives down so that we could continue to live the lives that we were accustomed to. We asked that they pay the ultimate price and never gave them a second thought.

Rex was no different than you or I. He was the same as so many, but so different in every way. He had his likes, his dislikes and things that made him unique.

He was us. We cannot look at ourselves now without seeing a little piece of Rex in all of us. He could've been your brother, uncle or son.

I know that he was my brother.

Remember the short life that he did lead. The life which was full of pain and anguish, but still a life lived. Remember Rex because he had no mother and father, but we created him and should bear the burden of the grief that they would have.

He would not want us to be gathered and crying over him. Rex would've wanted us to carry on as though nothing happened, but that is not my way.

As we send his brothers out again to fight, I will remember Rex and all those who have gone before. They deserve our memorials because those will be their only ones.
