I recently watched the film Pride with my friend and a few characters just struck me as being similar to characters from The Mortal Instruments/The Infernal Devices with the way they acted - Mark was like Magnus, Joe like Alec, Aline like Steph, and so on! So this will basically be a re-telling of Pride using Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices characters!

It was the Summer of _ when Alexander Lightwood finally decided he needed to stop pretending. Sure, he'd pretend he wasn't around his parents, but around others he wouldn't. He wouldn't do anything drastic, just go to the March in the center of London and try, try desperately to blend in. The March just happened to be on his 20th birthday, so if that wasn't a sign of good luck, Alec didn't know what was.
He pulled on a old, worn jacket and a pair of holey jeans and made his way downstairs, calling to his mother as he went out. "I'm off for a couple of drinks, Mum! See you later!"
Of course, his mother(being the proud woman that she was), grabbed him as he was about to step outside the door. "Oh son, aren't you going to open at least one gift before leaving?" Her blue eyes bore into his and he nodded, trying to keep a grin from crawling across his face, truth be told he wasn't expecting to get anything that year. "That's the spirit! Robert! Isabelle! Max! Come downstairs! Mr Grumpy is opening one present before he goes out!"
Alec groaned inwardly as his father, sister and brother all propelled themselves down the stairs and at him; his father flashing a smile at him, Isabelle snorting and mumbling 'Happy birthday', and Max messing up his hair and tossing him a badge.
"Right, right, get off you." Alec smiled at his younger brother and pinned the badge to his jacket. "Mum I said I'd meet the guys at one, hurry up."
His mother nodded and herded them all into the kitchen where a small package sat on the table. "It's not much but hey.. We hope you'll like it." She blushed slightly and walked over to her husband, looping her arm around his and murmuring something in his ear.
Alec walked over to the package cautiously, then unwrapped it. When he saw what was inside of it he grinned widely, "Oh I love you mum! You did buy me a camera!"
"Hey! It's off all of us, don't just thank me. And don't you have somewhere to go?" Alec froze and glanced at the clock which read 12:45 - fifteen minutes until the march began.
"Oh, shoot, yes. Right, bye - thank you!" He kissed his mother's cheek quickly and then half ran, half stumbled out of the house and jogged down the street, praying he wouldn't be late.
My starter chapters are usually slow, this will pick up, I promise. I just wanted it published - next chapter you'll meet Magnus and Aline and yeah.. xD
