A Pumpkin Patch So Sincere (An Origin Story)
IT ALL CAME IN A DREAM
Once upon a time, not too long ago, a young lad wondered about if there was other holidays that gave you gifts like Christmas and Easter. He thought to himself Christmas has Santa Claus; Easter has the Easter Bunny, why can't Halloween have someone to bring you something. He asked his parents if such a person or being existed for Halloween. They told him no, not for Halloween. They told him that he only dresses up as who he wants to be and go door to door and collect candy. He thought there must be more to Halloween than that. Then later that night while the lad was asleep, he dreamed of a being that arose out of the pumpkin patch and greeted the kids.
"Hi boys and girls," the being replied. "I am what's known as the Great Pumpkin. I arise out of the pumpkin patch which I find the most sincere, and after I arise, I deliver toys to all the good children of the neighborhood." He walked up to the young lad.
"My boy," he began, "I call upon you to spread the word about me. Tell all the children and let them know on every Halloween night I will arise from a sincere pumpkin patch to deliver toys to them. Let them know!" And the boy woke up knowing what he was born to do.
SPREADING THE WORD
When the young lad got out of bed, he started getting to work on spreading the word about the being known as the Great Pumpkin. He remembered the words from his vivid dream, "Let them know", and so that's what he did. He went door to door and told many people about the Great Pumpkin. Some listen long enough before closing the door, some shut the door after he uttered "The Great Pumpkin", and some assumed he was a Jehovah's Witness. But he didn't stop because folks didn't want to hear about "someone who wasn't real". He kept spreading the word about the almighty Great Pumpkin who comes out of the pumpkin patch to bring toys to all the good children.
Soon he was telling his close friends about the Great Pumpkin. All of them didn't believe him. Some were vocal about their disbelief, calling him insane. Others, like his best friend, said he may have been getting the Great Pumpkin confused with Santa Claus. He insisted that wasn't the case, as Santa Claus and the Great Pumpkin operated differently from each other. Santa hears what kids want for Christmas and then delivers it to them on Christmas Day, whereas the Great Pumpkin brings whatever he has on him. While kids could write to the Great Pumpkin and say they couldn't wait for him to get there and hope he picked their pumpkin patch, they could NOT ask for a certain gift from the Great Pumpkin, thus offending him. As Halloween drew nearer, the young lad continued to spread the word about the Great Pumpkin.
HALLOWEEN NIGHT
When Halloween Night approached, the young lad was ready for the arrival of the Great Pumpkin. This was his first time waiting for him. He had a flashlight, his blanket that he always had on him, and some food to snack on if he got hungry. While his older sister was getting ready to go trick-or-treating with their friends, he was gearing up for the most exciting night of his life. As this was the night the Great Pumpkin rose out of the pumpkin patch he thought was the most sincere, and then flew through the air with toys for all the good children. The young lad could not contain his excitement. He went into his backyard where his parents had a pumpkin patch filled with pumpkins. And for the first time, Linus Van Pelt waited for the Great Pumpkin.
