She was a star
Intelligent, pretty, and kind
She shone, twinkled, and danced
Among all of her friends and family
They loved and admired her
She knew she was a star
And basked in all the attention
/
He was the moon
Distant, ever-changing, and beautiful
Though he was always surrounded
By smaller pinpoints of light
He never gave them the attention they craved
He wasn't sure why he was the moon
But he accepted it
/
He was the sun
Happy, bold, and bright
He was alone, though not by choice
And always longed for the company of others
Through it all, though, he kept smiling
He didn't know that he was the sun
But he was bright and warm all the same
/
The sun, the moon, and the star met
The star, pitying the sun's loneliness,
Gave him small gestures of kindness
She did not yet see him
As the sun
And the sun, dazzled by the star
Gladly took the comfort she offered
And secretly harbored affection
For her
Their relationship
Was similar to friendship
But not quite
/
The moon was aloof and silent
And the star was awed
By his beauty
She fawned over him,
Declaring her love
She much preferred his company
To that of the sun's
The moon ignored her
But she was not deterred
And loved him all the more
For his cool indifference
/
The sun and moon clashed
They were opposites
The moon thought the sun too bright
The sun thought the moon too pale
And the two began a fierce rivalry
Always trying to outdo the other
The star's affection
Remained unchanged
She still adored the moon
And tolerated the sun
/
But as time passed,
The rivalry between sun and moon
Evolved slowly
The moon found that
He liked the sun and his radiance
Despite all the bickering
He rather enjoyed the sun's company
And perhaps the sun wasn't too bright
After all
/
The sun was mystified
By the moon's constantly shifting faces
He resolved to get past those masks
To reveal the moon's inner self
And the sun felt that
When he was with the moon
He was not so alone
After all
/
The star realized something
She was being left behind
As the moon and the sun
Continued to grow
Being as smart as she was,
She realized that
Though they fought and hurt each other
They were two halves of a whole
So she backed away from the moon
Regarded the sun with more respect
And found another star
They danced side by side
She glowed proudly
And they were happy
/
The sun saw the star and her companion
But strangely, was not saddened
He looked at the moon
And saw that
He hadn't needed
The star's pity for a long time
He was happy for her
And hoped that their friendship could continue
/
The moon saw the star
Retreat from her childish notions
And was glad
He finally looked at her
And extended his friendship
/
The moon regarded the sun
And acknowledged that
Sunlight was an essential part
Of the moon's being
So he took a deep breath
And knocked down all his walls
/
The sun was surprised
Underneath that cold exterior
Was a gentle love
Or maybe the sun wasn't so surprised
Because he found himself
Responding in kind
/
The star and her kind
Winked contentedly in the night sky
And the moon watched over them fondly
The moon could always feel the sun's warmth
And, as a result, was less cold, less apathetic
The sun knew that
He always had the moon's love
And was genuinely happy
/
So the sun, moon, and stars
Revolved around each other
And found their true place
